How much of War and Peace did Tolstoy write while bearded?

Did he think, "another few pages on someone yearning for Natasha Rostov; that's not very subversive. Better shave the fucker off to even potentially achieve sublimity while I'm producing such material"?

As a project back in UCLA days, I had the option in a class of writing a paper on Tolstoy or writing a snippet to fit into a segment of War and Peace anywhere in the text I liked. I chose the latter option but probably should have gone all out and tried for one of those essay snippets instead of a 'regular' part of the text. I did not write this while bearded.

for which you should be ashamed of for your lack of dedication.

There were higher causes at work, namely my fatwa against my stubble.
