gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Who are you to call my island tawdry. Admittedly there at tatty bits, but the whole island. Pshaw.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Why export Americans to London? Christ, there are enough already here. I am offended by this thread. It should be about Americans who are here ALL. THE. TIME. not these bloody intruding holiday-makers. Harumph!

kate, Tuesday, 6 May 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

What's this about hstencil making a possible appearance?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

he posted something abt it last week but he hasn't confirmed anything.

(he owes me 3 CDRs and I blame him for it with good cause)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I blame him too, Julio.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 09:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it is up to the Americans to blow their own trumpets (fnar) when and if they come visit...

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 10:04 (twenty-two years ago)

...yeah, why feed their egos by giving them their own thread? They need to work for our love!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

b-but feeding egos is what ILE is all abt!!!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Julio, you are the best. Your turn.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, feeding egos is not what i do. I break them ;-)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Well you can't make an omletto without breaking egos.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

kate, Tuesday, 6 May 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I like Covent Garden because of all the shoes and the cheap haircuts you can get there.

Gareth is just pandering to the majority.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm looking at July 16-ish thru July 30 in The Great Britian.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Good call. Big Brother fever will be at it's height right around then.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Huzzah!! Is the footy season still be on?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Let me try that again... WILL the footy season still be on?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaron, I was kidding about BB - but at least the pubs won't be too crowded. Footy will sadly be resting it's weary feet till August. Not sure how you feel about cricket...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Not at all I'm afraid Aaron, that's when it's about th equietest in terms of footie.

chris (chris), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, that's what I thought. :( Oh well, I'll have lots of BB to keep me warm inside instead!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

You should go on it! The British public would love you!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Britain loves Detroit!

(at the moment)

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it too late to get on? I hope my Detroitness makes me the most popular man in all of Britian!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Your time in the UK covers the third round of the mighty Intertoto Cup, quite the strangest competition in European Football (stranger even than the Devon Bowl). It's unlikely that any of these fixtures will be in London (or... are Spurs entering?)

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh sweet... I'll be roaming throughout the country, hopefully.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't actually know whether any English teams are entering, come to think of it. Cabbage? It's a cup without a cup, and without a winner even.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Where are you going to be visiting, Aaron?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a cup without a cup, and without a winner even. That sounds fantastic!

Plans are a bit up in the air, but they're gonna include visiting my gf at London School of Economics, hooking up with my Ghostly friends for some shows in London, hopefully getting to Manchester and Liverpool, and whatever else I feel like doing... any suggestions, Nordic??

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I am sure you can go to Tom's house and experience the real actual thrill of the UK footie scene by proxy of LMA Manager 2.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

mmmm....

A day in Brighton, perhaps? If the weather is good, well worth it.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

hooking up with my Ghostly friends for some shows in London

What is Ghostly?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Spurs aren't doing the intertoto.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 16 May 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

That darn Aaron, making records!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 May 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a sexy site, isn't it? I like the little ghost. You released something by DMX Crew?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks! I'm in the process of helping get the site revamped and updated... should have more stuff soon. And yeah, DMX Krew was on Disco Nouveau and also some 12"s. Um, we've got other stuff too.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 16 May 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't know about taxis, but I do that exact route and back every day. For reference it's about a 40 min walk.

Brian Eno's Mother (Latham Green), Thursday, 13 March 2014 15:46 (eleven years ago)

What's your budget, how long are you staying for and what sort of thing are you looking to do?

Matt DC, Thursday, 13 March 2014 15:54 (eleven years ago)

Id imagine the museum of automata would be a must see

Brian Eno's Mother (Latham Green), Thursday, 13 March 2014 15:58 (eleven years ago)

Brian Eno's Mother (Latham Green), Thursday, 13 March 2014 16:05 (eleven years ago)

"The Torturer is having some wicked fun as he demonstrates his instruments and methods on you or one of your fellow unsuspecting by-standers. Whether you are a criminal, traitor or heretic – or incredibly innocent, he has all the tools to make you confess. With a wicked glint in his eye the torturer will demonstrate The Hook Tongue tearer, thumbscrews and (if you are a very unlucky chap…) the chappy chopper!

Get tied onto the torture chair.
Watch your mates whining for grace.
See who is locked up in the torturers cell.
"

Brian Eno's Mother (Latham Green), Thursday, 13 March 2014 16:07 (eleven years ago)

You seem to be looking at stuff in York? (though there is also a London Dungeon)

Is it unpleasant to stay near Paddington Station? Though I gather the area right around there might not be too fun, charming or aeasthetically pleasing, I guess it would be convenient for travel within and outside of London and seems not far from Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens which I think I would like.
But I would also like someplace to walk around in the evening without having to get the tube. Is there a nice place to walk around near enough to there?
I have been to London before years ago but for some reason have no sense of geography, distances, or neigborhood personalities.

MrDasher, Thursday, 13 March 2014 16:17 (eleven years ago)

Paddington is about as inconvenient a location as you can be while still being in Zone 1 - I would steer clear personally, unless you're planning on doing a lot of travel outside of London.

Matt DC, Thursday, 13 March 2014 16:33 (eleven years ago)

Inconvenient in that it is not a good place from which to travel to other parts of London or is it that it's not a good area for food, shops etc in itself?

MrDasher, Thursday, 13 March 2014 16:50 (eleven years ago)

Both.

Matt DC, Thursday, 13 March 2014 16:51 (eleven years ago)

It's weird, in that it is physically very central but seems to take ages to get to by public transport, and there's not a great deal of interest in the area. Proximity to Hyde Park isn't really much of a selling point.

Matt DC, Thursday, 13 March 2014 16:53 (eleven years ago)

Yes, it did seem central and I kind of know what you mean about places that seem central yet somehow don't really feel near anything so that is useful information.
The park seemed like someplace nice to have nearby but not necessarily a place I would go otherwise. I don't feel a great need to be near a lot of "attractions" but places to eat, get coffee, shop etc would be nice. They don't need to be at my door but within a reasonable walk.

MrDasher, Thursday, 13 March 2014 17:11 (eleven years ago)

otm, it's a very strange area. I always imagine there's… stuff, interesting londony stuff hidden there, but I've never got to know it.

Maybe try just south of the river? London Bridge/Borough - you can get most places by walking, good transport, food & coffee good (Borough market).

woof, Thursday, 13 March 2014 17:19 (eleven years ago)

There seem to be loads of hotels around Russell Square / Bloomsbury, convenient area but I don't know if the hotels are any good or value for money. Don't really need to stay in 'em tbh as I live here.

めんどくさい (Matt #2), Thursday, 13 March 2014 18:05 (eleven years ago)

Hotels there are often relatively inexpensive but not amazingly great. Doesn't really matter if you are going to be out and about. Relatively inexpensive is still expensive, obvs.

I tend to put people up in the Strand Palace or Holiday Inn Bloomsbury but when people are paying themselves they often look around Earls Court or Kings Cross.
