What an amazing day

Yesterday was. 4262 at Kingsmeadow pushing the season's average to 3008. We stopped the Franchise using a womble as a mascot. Tom Watt there from BBC blown away. As was Robbie Earle, Dave Beasant, Laurie Sanchez. Fans from Brentford, Northampton, West Ham, Kingstonian, Burnley, Feyernoord, Norwich, Wycombe, Sunderland and St Pauli made the trip to share the love. Lap of honour, player of year awards, Kevin Cooper scoring with his head, Kevin Cooper (Wolves) coming back to present the player of the year award, Sky Sports giving good coverage.

Sorry. I'm gushing. But what a season. From nothing to this. Next season, we'll have 3 junior teams, 2 women's teams and finally, reserves. A ground too.

And to top it off, Charlton cancelled their friendly against the Franchise in MK after pressure from their supporters. And we announced a friendly against someone on the 16th July against someone good. The two might be related. Any spurz fans on here want to sent an email to their club asking them not to play in MK?

There was even an appearance in the programme from a certain Dave Boyle, a 29 year old "exotic dancer", who closely resembles the bloke who plays the father of Summer and Boyd in "Neighbours"...

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

That Boyle guy sounds hottt. He did have a button on that prominently said "ILXOR ROXXX FRANCHISE R ALL GAY," yes?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave, is your rumination on the 16th July friendly a nudge nudge, tapping-the-side-of-your-nose kind of rumination?

Yesterday was phenomenal. Even winning the FA Cup wasn't as special and spectacular as the completion of my first season as a supporter of a club who really, truly are in it for all the right reasons. I can't believe how much fun I had! This is the chap who sat alone on his sofa crying uncontrollably when the Dons were relegated from the premiership 2 seasons ago, feeling for all the world that the good times were in the past and nothing but heartache and misery was to come. I couldn't have been more wrong.

From being a passionate but decidedly armchair supporter, I've become a merchandise-buying, fundraising-assisting, game-attending (I made my dozen this season, more than for the last decade combined) animal. Lack of promotion (unless you know more about that too, Dave) hasn't really mattered a jot - we'd have gone up in EVERY other league in the country, apparently, with our 111 points.

It's been the best fun ever. Right now I'm feeling rather like Homer Simpson when his TV breaks down and there are no beers in the fridge, but still basking in the happiness and glory of something just incredible.

j0e, over to you?

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this thread about football? If so, ChristineH to thread! :)

Sarah MCLusky (coco), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

This time last year I had been to one football game EVER (Derby v Wolves in about 1996 or 7 - it was 0-0). I was pretty much a ChristineH ;) - but yesterday I found myself in tears. What we've done is incredible, and truly I can't remember ever enjoying a weekend more. When are 2003/4 season tickets on sale again?

Was hoping to see you around Mark - though was good (as ever) to see Mr Boyle through my perpetual drunken haze. Snapshots of the day keep leaping into my mind and my colleagues keep asking me what I'm beaming about...

j0e (j0e), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I looked out for you too, j0e - but I was dragged off earlier than I would've liked by my parents, and I was having a not-speaking row with my dad, so that soured it a bit.

I think season tickets are already on sale - I forgot to pick up a form, but I doubt they're going to make it hard to apply for one.

Tim Popkins - why not support AFCW rather than Real Madrid? You've already been to a game...

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

J0e - have i met you? I was in a perpetual drunken haze due to some very bad asti spumante (the offy didn't have any champagne).

Season tickets on sale now. No price increase.

Other memories from yesterday - a moonie on the pitch by a player during the game (surely ungentlemanly conduct?) and one of the players confirming the dressing room stories about unfeasibly large testicles. Chelsea fans getting hacked off at us singing on the 131 back to Wimbledon and then getting off the bus in a strop.

I am not an exotic dancer by the way. Though I do look rough as fuck in that picture in the programme, which is appropriate, as I was feeling as bad as I looked.

Mark - dunno about the new friendly, but that was the gossip. Fingers crossed...

2002-2003 - it was Eamotional.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

all the best for next season lads

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave - you do know me - some might say that I'm the f1rst l4dy of the club...

As for the unfeasibly large testicles, I unfortunately got a flash of one. You could have drawn a smile on it and used it as a space hopper.

Steve, when are we going to get you to a game then like?

j0e (j0e), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

On the very long list of things I hate about football, the tendency to pointedly not identify what just happened because what d'you mean you don't know, it's football subhuman - is probably the top.

Or put another way: what team are you talking about?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

AFC Wimbledon.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Aha! Didn't realise you were an IlXer. Does 'er indoors ever lurk here?

Andrew - we're talking about AFC Wimbledon.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't been on here for long - anyway the ball and chain never comes in here, too busy... It'll be nice to have him back for a bit.

j0e (j0e), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

heh hehe. Spurs call off the friendly as a result of fan pressure. Franchise say it was called off as they wanted to make sure that the stadium in MK was ready and would be safe and comfortable (tip to koppel - buy a sofa).

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 9 May 2003 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I think AFC Wimbledon must have more ILX0R fans than any other club except perhaps Liverpool.

I want to go next season... lots.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 9 May 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Good to see the Chairman on BBC News as well the other day. I actually jumped out of my chair in front of my flatmates and when "oi! I know him!" in a mildly embarassing manner.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 9 May 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

And now Luton call off their match against them. The MK Lepers. They'll have to play with themselves instead*.

*See what I did there?

Tim H - Forsake the mighty Real Madrid and get yo ass along to us. It is your DESTINY!
