You know you want to.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 6 May 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Bill Watterson should beat this cartoonist severely. I'm thinking ballpeen hammer (a'la Casino). "What hand do you draw your suspiciously Calvin-esque flag-huggers with?"

Also: NOTE QUIZZICAL (SOCIALIST!) HIPPIE CHILD

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

WHAT IS CALVIN DOING TO THAT POLE?

Dammit, Nate beat me to it.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Long hair don't always mean hippie:

hstencil, Tuesday, 6 May 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, at least it's better than Sylvia Plath.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn it, that's a flag, not a rag! We don't wear it on our heads!

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

We wear it on our shoulders instead!

I too weep for my beloved red white and blue, but not out of pride...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think qualifies as a poem it sounds horrible and stilted.

isadora (isadora), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 00:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Poor kid, he is obviously not THAT lucky and blessed - he has to hug a flagpole for flip's sake. Talk about emotional deprivation.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Do people have a problem with patriotism? I never thought
ill of it in and of itself. Oh sure, I despise my current
national government - but still hold strong patriotic
feelings for my nation and it's symbols. I'd never say I
feel "pride" in it, though, pride is a dangerous thing.

"I know of no country in which there is so little independence of mind and real freedom of discussion as in America... In America the majority raises formidable barriers around the liberty of opinion; within these barriers an author may write what he pleases; but woe to him if he goes beyond them... You are free to think differently from me and retain your life, your property and all that you possess, but you are henceforth a stranger among your people. You may retain your civil rights, but they will be useless to you, for you will never be chosen by your fellow citizens if you solicit their votes; and they will affect to scorn you if you ask for their esteem."

Alexis de Tocqueville

Momus (Momus), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

"NIGHT LIGHTS AND PILLOW FIGHTS - A TRIP TO STORYLAND"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

reading the rhythm alone:
the couplet "so i pray they will soon/then i weep with pride" totally fucks the metrical effect thus far established = it switches from a strong excited in-some-ways quite likeable busy rush of self-doubting questions — their answers at least rhetorically open-ended — to a really gluey and doubt-haunted closure, the exact opposite of the footsure/cocksure opening

That chick is what Peppermint Patty will look like in five years!

This reminds me of the car sticker w/bootleg Calvin praying in front of a cross. it gives me a quesy feeling.

not only did I just throw up inside my own mouth after reading this thread, but all my internal parasites and various assorted bugs also threw up inside their own tiny little mouths too.

I wanna kick that guy's ass so much that I'm actually considering getting a graduate degree in Ass Kicking just so I do it right.

maybe he'll do something really bad and go to prison for life in one of those Oz-type scenarios and have to do cartoon tattoos to keep from being raped but the prisoners will hate his tattoos too....

Neudonym, Thursday, 3 July 2003 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Notice how he nearly ALWAYS mentions his "Two Times National Cartoonist Society Award Winner" credentials...
