I've got some students writing an essay about Virgin Suicides and Welcome To The Dollhouse, and they want to know if Pathé are an independant company or tied to one of the major media co.'s. Now, as far as I know, Pathé are tied to 20th C Fox, but what exactly is the relationship? Also, Art. Eye products are distributed by a company called Fox Video; are they an independant company or a part of 20th C Fox too somewhere down the line?

New Marxist cultural theory answers regarding control of the means of production, base&superstructure etcetera with ref. to these specific filnms and companies please!

Quick answer - look up the films at imdb.com and there may well be links to relevant publicists at Fox etc; I remember going to see Welcome To in the Fox preview theatre in Soho Square so they could have distribution of all these films.

I think a lot of the relationships are pretty convulated; i.e. certain "Fox" companies are no longer owned by 20th Century Fox, and some are only part-owned by them. This stuff always makes my head and spin and it's always changing. I'll ask some of my media-literate friends and see if they know.

I was just reading about Pathe's importing French films to the US in the 1910s.

But Fox Pathe Home Entertainment seems to be some kind of joint venture - it is a "video distribution company that markets films made in the Fox and Pathe studios" (from a press release).
