for it: the last novel i liked by hers was handmaids, i like it when sh is bitter and angry, i agree with her postions on sci and tech, the aspergers angle touches me on a personal level, it has gotten good press.
agaisnt it: i usually do not like her prose, it seems over the top,she has expressed contempt for sf before, i am not sure i will like the charachters, when has she not gotten good press.

i dunno, i find that critics kind of respect her, but not in a particularly wholehearted way (here in britain anyway, i guess in canada things may be different!) i think she bamboozles people so much because her writing, if not some of her subject matter, can be so deathly dry and, in some respects, unfeminine. anyway i love her and am looking forward to reading this.

Oh, in Canada, when a new novel of hers comes out it's a question of 'How excellent is this one now, because it clearly won't be bad'. She's a genuine celebrity, largely without backlash; I know very few people who can't express some measure of admiration.

I'm excited to read Oryx, myself, though I'll name 'Life Before Man' as my favourite.
