i saw this last night, but i missed the beginning and i was too tired to really follow it properly. i didnt like jude law much but then he is not so good. i think the film would have been better with will smith in the lead role

Any film would be better with Will Smith in the lead role. Especially Patton.

haha, thats actually what was agreed in the house last night!

The good thing about existenz was how JJ Leigh's hair style indicated the various levels of virtuality. And the ending was grebt. Can't actually remember the rest.

Women's hairstyles indicate the level of virtuality in real life too. Had you not noticed?

Jude Law is fine but yeh he wasnt at his best in this film, and it was good (read 'surreal') to see Christopher Ecclestone in this film at the time (i saw it in the cinema, directly after Pi)

It was kind of Cronenberg-lite. I liked it, but if you haven't seen Videodrome, go out and rent it.

Sean (Sean), Saturday, 10 May 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

existenz: cronenberg's best or just videodrome with rimming?

I suggested this as a video rental once and was roundly booed once we started watching it.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 10 May 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I couldn't tell if I liked this movie. It was pretty harmless and not really horrible but it left just a bad impression on me. I watched it twice but I don't think I enjoyed it. Except for the fish gun. JJ Leigh just didn't do it for me in this movie and I think it's laughable if Jude Law tries to play anyone other than an incrediblly good looking man in a movie.

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's a great film. It is a rehash of Videodrome to some extent, but you are allowed plagiarise yourself.

actually, I remember thinking when it came out that it was The Matrix for people who like films.

DV (dirtyvicar), Saturday, 10 May 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

anyone know why the X and the Z are in caps in the title?
was Cronenberg on about genetics or it's just l33t or what?

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 11 May 2003 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)

also a pun on brand-name drugs, i.e. the name of the game as it is revealed at the end

Shit dudes – video games actually look like this now! Look at the shadows, just exactly the same.

The only _ only _ thing off is the texture on his jacket looks a little too good.
