Cocktail for you town

Prompted by the fact that we have not had a cocktail thread for far too long and by a really good polish martini: I want to know what cocktail represents your town.

Ed (dali), Monday, 12 May 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

the Manhattan! duh.

(actually, probably the Cosmo.)

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 12 May 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

beer and clamato, not much of a cocktail, not much of a town

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 12 May 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Pabst Blue Ribbon. Not a cocktail at all, but Richmond is a city of contradictions.

Austin, Texas: The Mexican Martini

A gut-busting whallop of tequila, vodka, and the good lord knows what else, served in a large shaker with a chilled martini glass. Exclusively at Trudy's Texas star. A must.

You can even play a little game: The Trudy's challenge.

Seeing as I live in Kentucky, you'd think it would be something with bourbon or moonshine. However, Lexington doesn't feel like a bourbon or moonshine town, it's more like a keg-of-Sierra-Nevada town.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 12 May 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah that's right, Louisville representz the MINT JULEP action, beyotch.

hstencil, Monday, 12 May 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Initially I think "LA = Appletini", but I think one of y'all could do better.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 12 May 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

LA = any cocktail mixed with cocaine?

hstencil, Monday, 12 May 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

a coketail?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 12 May 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Lexington needs its own drink; I'm thinking something with, like, bourbon (for the hillibillies), tequila (for the students), bombay gin (for the hoity-toities), and wheat-grass juice (for the hippies). What could we name it? Oh, I know!...

bartender: welcome to Lexington, KY, what'll you have?
patron: I'll have one of those PUKE TIL I BLEED FROM MY MOUTHs please

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 12 May 2003 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Crown Royal & Coke

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 12 May 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

LA:

Larry Levy: I'll be there right after my AA meeting.
Griffin Mill: Oh Larry, I didn't realise you had a drinking problem.
Larry Levy: Well I don't really, but that's where all the deals are being made these days.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 12 May 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to say that Ormskirk is defined by one of my own infinitely tasteful creations behind my bar, but sadly a mixture of Blue WKD and Port ("It tastes like fookin' vimto, mate") would be more apt.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 12 May 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe the LA Lemonade margarita from the Sonora Cafe...

luna (luna.c), Monday, 12 May 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

JC: the gummy bear martini?

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 12 May 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

y'know what, nothing here has yet to compare to the Beer&Clam I mentioned above.
Yes! My town rocks!

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 12 May 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

The margarita.

There's even a city-wide competition to judge the city's best margarita, which is a giant source of pride for many bars & restaurants should they get that honor.

It's all over the place.

Dee the Semi-Lurker (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 12 May 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

There's been a lot of white Russians moving to Cleveland within the past couple of years so in their honor I'll say the 7 and 7.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Monday, 12 May 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

dallas, a texas city that wants to be New York City but comes off more like Phoenix or Atlanta: the Mambo Taxi @ Mi Cocina, a fun, potent, tasty and tacky swirl of frozen margarita & sangria, dispensed from a machine, yours for $8.00

Aaron A., Monday, 12 May 2003 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

If it counts as a cocktail, frozen daiquiris in forty flavors. And also hurricanes.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 12 May 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

cocktails are for wusses

here - arake=katikali=ouzo=moonshine
to be found in lovely flavors like milk, coffee or garlic
(actually they're all great, am now inspired to go have some tomorrow)

H (Heruy), Monday, 12 May 2003 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

whiskey striaght

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 12 May 2003 23:53 (twenty-two years ago)

The entire Pacific NW is this giant rhizomic pasture of microbreweries, complete with seasons and pictures of pretty mountains. What's a cocktail?

chester (synkro), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

The only (disgusting) answer I can come up with for Melbourne is this thing thats not really a cocktail - its a new drink made by Carlton (hence being very Melbourne) thats a mix of Carlton Cold beer and ... wait for it ... vodka.

Somehow I like to think it captures the clash of westie workingclass footy fan and inner urban hipster that is Melbourne in a nutshell :)

And, it sounds revolting.

I'd post a piccy or ad for it, but I can't find one. Its called Cold Shot in any case...

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

cocksucking cowboy or quick fuck, probably

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

eww Cold Shot, i'd rather drink turpentine

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

nothing wrong with turpentine

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

it's no antifreeze, but desperate times and all that..

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Milwaukee: Scotch and soda. Moscow Mules for the old men. Blatz for everyone.

kirsten (kirsten), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Costa Mesa's cocktail...er, lemme go down to the Kitsch Bar or something and I'll let you know.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Jim, you know you should never mix your drinks! ;P

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 00:49 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a kiwifruit-infused vodka that the Sunday paper colour supplements keep wanking on about but apparently you can only buy it duty-free at grossly inflated prices.

This city's full of STD-riddled uni student brats so it'd be either horrible premix alcopops laced with whatever daterape drug is big this week, or Kristov vodka-flavoured generic alcoholic beverage (2/3 'vodka' 1/3 extra water, plastic bottle), diluted with enough cheap soft drink to disguise the synthesised potato taste.

That, or epoxy resin in a supermarket bag.
