i write this with grimy plane ticket in grimy canadian pocket:

so my tour of western europe now officially begins in london on june 15th, and i'll probably be in the UK for the remainder of the month before moving on. i know it's early and all, but would anybody like to indulge my shameless request for drinking partners?

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 02:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I'm so jealous! What countries are you going to?

lyra (lyra), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 03:25 (twenty-three years ago)

As long as its after the 21st. In fact Sunday 22nd would be great.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 06:15 (twenty-three years ago)

i should be around for most of this period,

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 07:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I haven't left London in about two years now, and my diary is rarely packed, so I would expect to be able to make most dates, and I'll look forward to meeting you.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 11:43 (twenty-three years ago)

blimey wouldn't it be a lot easier if all you north american types ALL CAME OVER AT ONCE!

haha, only kidding. alang can you write a diary/planner type thing so we can keep track of all these FAPs pls?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 11:58 (twenty-three years ago)

countries: england, ireland, scotland, portugal, spain, italy, france, germany, switzerland, netherlands with outside chances of greece, sweden, turkey.

gone for four months minimum!!

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 12:05 (twenty-three years ago)

be sure and notify me when you're around Dublin if you are!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 12:19 (twenty-three years ago)

In four months time Mark P will have seen more of Europe than I have. I suspect this is true for a lot of Canadians/Americans who come over here.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 12:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I reckon it's even true localised to the city you live in! At least in terms of monuments, galleries, museums etc.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 12:22 (twenty-three years ago)

one month passes...
ok so i'm here until the 25th! is anyone down?

also: i have free guestlist for kid606/dj rupture this friday at the ica and a spare ticket to sell (10-12 poundsish i think) for interpol on next wednesday

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Sadly no. :-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

mark- when would you like to do this FAP thing?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, pick a barndoor and we'll hit it (as the phrase goes).

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

thursday/friday sounds good to me, if not too late notice

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Ack - this whole period is just impossible for me... sorry Mark :(

(Except possibly Friday, now you come to mention it)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Friday as in this Friday, the 20th? I could make that, and I am free most of next week, though not the weekend.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I have something else early Thursday evening, but I might be free later. Friday is very possible.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:07 (twenty-two years ago)

ditto i think

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

IMPORTANT THING!

Starry Sarah's birthday is this weekend. She would like a birthday drink on Friday. She doesn't have interweb access but she suggested combining this with the FAP.

As for where - John Snow please.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Cor! Will there be GOFFS there?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Seems like a plan. I too am free Friday.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Blimey, every year I forget that Starry's birthday nearly coincides with mine.

alext (alext), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

T, having a FAP in the second closest pub* to your office is a little naughty isn't it ;)

*NB closest is too small for FAP...

i'm pretty certain i'm already booked for friday, just too popliar i guess...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thinking this too Steve.But that's a bit cynical I guess.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Were you thinking Steve was too popular?

alext (alext), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a very naughty boy.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

*gets cross that she doesn't live in london*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

ok i have to interview kid 606 at soundcheck on friday, but i guess i don't have to necessarily stay for the show, so this sounds alright by me

now where's this john snow? and for that matter, where's the ica?

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Friday'll do me fine, hopefully. Though christ knows how long I'll take getting there...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 12:43 (twenty-two years ago)

The John Snow is here

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

ICA -> John Snow = 10 minutes by bus (includes a bit of walking), 15 minutes or so by foot £5- £6 by cab.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm still on course to make this FAP :)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not on course to make this FAP :(

don't think I'll make any for the rest o' this month.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Will it be a hen fap?

http://graphics.theonion.com/pics_3121/alzheimerprotest.jpg

Sam (chirombo), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I won't be there either, sorry, hens or no hens.

Banning the picnic apes seems a tremendous idea, btw. (Sam: we must do that Peckham FAP sometime)

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes we must, I'd like that.

I can't make it on Fri either - hope you all have a good'un.

Sam (chirombo), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

what time are we meeting?

also, can i ask a massive favour? if the new dizzee has leaked can someone bring me a burn please? i'll buy you a pint in exchange! i was in deal real today and they were playing the full album and i realized how badly i need this right now

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm so fed up with the crap quality mp3s i'm just gonna wait and buy the bloody thing when it comes out i've decided

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

so it's not leaked then?

cripes seemed like every other store had it on

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

usually in FAPs ppl are there from abt 6.30.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

ok i may be a bit late then

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

see you there hopefully.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, I'll be there, and from pretty early. If I can resist Berwick Street en route.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

buy everything in berwick street the day before martin, they can't stock up again in just 24 hrs

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't - I have a date the day before, so that will keep me away from there. She is an organiser of scientific conferences who has met lots of Nobel winners, so my gameplan is to impress her with my A Level in Chemistry.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

(or your smart record collection)

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 19 June 2003 08:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i should be in this John Snow pub from 7pm

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 19 June 2003 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this tomorrow that we're talking about? Should be there if so, and maybe early enough to get a seat this time :)

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 19 June 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

aye tomorrow, hope to see you there

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 19 June 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Bump

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 20 June 2003 09:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I should be there 8-ish, whihc is being mildly optimistic...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 20 June 2003 09:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i inadvertently passed by the john snow last nite, so i have a good enough idea where it is now

i'm gonna try to finish the interview earlyish so that i can get there for around 7 or so

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 20 June 2003 10:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think I can make this any more :(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 June 2003 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

its just occured to me that i have no clue what any of you look like

i have a mostly shaved head and a nose ring

i'll be wearing a bright blue t-shirt, black pants and white shoes

maybe i should pin a rose on my lapel

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 20 June 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I am a fat bloke with a beard. I have dark hair, a navy shirt, blue jeans.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 20 June 2003 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you should all carry newspapers under your arms & carry bunches of flowers!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 20 June 2003 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry can someone put a fancy a pint link for the john snow pub.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 20 June 2003 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 20 June 2003 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Starry is stuck in the pub on her own, I cannot join her as I am trapped in work, calling all cars calling all cars etc.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

*puts on thunderbird hat*

mark s (mark s), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

gareth (gareth), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll meet you all in the doorway of borders bout half eleven then, eh?

nick.K (nick.K), Friday, 20 June 2003 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick, yr a very bad man. Myself, I'm drunk as a very dodgy newt. Harry Potter queuers can fuck off.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 20 June 2003 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

My head hurts.

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 21 June 2003 07:20 (twenty-two years ago)

is that bcz you started reading the new harry potter ricky?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 21 June 2003 07:31 (twenty-two years ago)

NO

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 21 June 2003 07:45 (twenty-two years ago)

but he does have five copies of the new book, all signed (one by a borders guy wearing a witches hat, four by pete baran)

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 21 June 2003 08:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Who dies in Harry Potter? is it Mick?

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 21 June 2003 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

One of the owls.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Saturday, 21 June 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom's lying. It's actually Harry. Or that's what my quartet of Pete signed editions say anyway.

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 21 June 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Harry is creamed by a truck at the start at which point it becomes a gripping whodunnit.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 21 June 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

FOUR FORTY FUCKING FIVE AM!

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 21 June 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

!!!!

(the lengths to which steve is willing to go to stay and get his status quo fix are truly astounding)

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 21 June 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

anyway it was super great meeting you all - happy birthday to sarah and huge thanks to toby for bringing me a dizzee!

ps gareth i smoked WAY too too too much

pps steve can i have that TWO pound coin then?

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 21 June 2003 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the way that when you read stuff about FAPs you haven't attended it always looks like you've missed the most debached and fun thing ever. (This may well be true in this case).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 23 June 2003 09:32 (twenty-two years ago)

glad you made it back 'home' mark p, i was worried the cabbie was gonna take you to the complete wrong end of Finchley Road or something. i am still mad jealous of your DR t-shirt btw

surreal moment: meeting nick k at the entrance to Borders and thinking he was a member of staff - sorry mr gabba sir

less nice surreal moment: the really aggressive beggar who demanded my precious shiny £2 coin (tho he did offer change) - i can't work out if i was really mean or really nice to him...a bit of both perhaps

the main reason it took me so long to get home was cos i spent about 20 minutes waiting with gareth and sarah for their bus, then when i got to victoria i had to wait 50 minutes for the coach home. on the way there a big gang of dizzy rascals were shouting their heads off on the top deck of the bus. i shouldve been scared but they were actually pretty dam funny and i just wanted to turn round and ask them if they'd heard 'Boy In Da Corner' yet.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 23 June 2003 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

getting home at daylight when you planned for a 'quite evening' = super dud classic

stevem (blueski), Monday, 23 June 2003 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Sounds like a great nite! Sorry I missed it.
