Who is the greatest Pretender? Or which one REALLY was the murdered Prince?

I've always been a Lambert Simnel man myself, because Perkin Warbeck is a stupid name.

I always thought both of them had the greatest names, it's too close to call.

For a bit of context -- I am terribly annoyed that I've heard of NEITHER of them until now. Some history buff I am! I want DV and Nicole's BRANES.

Alternately, who knew that Perkin has his own web page?

Wow, really? I always think of myself as horribly uneducated compared to you, so it just seems weird to me that you didn't know about them.

I remember hearing that were such kinds of people after Henry VII's accession, but I knew no details (whereas I will happily tell you about the various False Dmitris in Russia after the accession of Boris Gudonov, who were essentially props by the Polish/Lithuanian government out to try and wrest control of Smolensk, but a revolt of the boyars...)

the poem abt henry vii in eleanor farjeon's kings and queens of england is ENTIRELY devoted (one verse each) to PW and LS

I'm a Warbeck man me. I like his confession to Henry at Taunton where he told the king that it was all a big misunderstanding and that he had innocently come to Cork in 1491 as an apprentice only to be 'mistaken' as a Yorkist prince.

"it's not my fault that's how i am!"

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

one of them got made a serving lad in the King's Palace after his Pretending days were over. Apparently Henry VII delighted in having him wait at table when Yorkist sympathising lords were visiting, so he could say "I see you are well acquainted with my servant".

I think the other one was executed.

Classic: Lambert Simnel, cos he was named after a type of cake.

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

EF's Kings and Queens: classic or classic??
