Starting a thread to discuss the Play Off Finals:

Nationwide Play Off Finals

Division 1: Wolverhampton Wanderers Vs [Nottingham Forest or Sheff Utd]
Division 2: Cardiff City Vs QPR
Division 3: AFC Bournemouth Vs Lincoln City

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

one more fixture to be decided:

Nottingham Forest or Sheff Utd to play Wolves in the Division 1 Play Off final

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Bournemouth vs Lincoln - only tie between two teams named after biscuits (nearly).

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Blades for the Premiership

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

QPR! QPR! QPR! (my second team geographically)

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

The main thing in the second was that Bristol City failed. I'll be giving very tepid support to QPR and Wolves, because I know and like supporters of those sides.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a bet with my brother, he says wolves to go up, i say sheff utd. i wouldn't mind losing too much, cos i hate that dickhead warnock. (my head's going to explode if one more writer starts going on about what a valuable character he is. he's an asshole! Full stop!)

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Would either of you like to bet that the winner stays there more than one season?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't think of a less appealing bunch of fans than Cardiff City (violently racist thugs) vs QPR (self-pitying whingeing think they're too good for the 2nd twats) possible.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

QPR (self-pitying whingeing think they're too good for the 2nd twats) possible.

Dom is now officially my arch-nemesis

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

like all clubs who went from a top 5 finish to Division 2 in the space of ten years, QPR fans are entitled to whinge a bit, and if they beat Cardiff then they WILL be too good for the 2nd

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

wait stevem can you hear that? i can faintly hear someone bitching from the 3rd division

u rrrrrrrsssssss!

Chip Morningstar (bob), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

If the God of the fixture computer gave Milton Keynes a first home fixture against Cardiff, it would be very very wrong of me to laugh my tits off.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

In QPR fans' defence, they're not as bad as Sheffield Wednesday supporters. Just.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 15 May 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like Sheff UTd to go up, I used to go see them a fair bit, mostly when Chesterfield were away at far flung reaches of the football league. I don't want Warnock to do well though as he's a tw@t.

chris (chris), Thursday, 15 May 2003 07:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm rooting for QPR, and I think that whoever wins the Blades/Forest match will go up.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 May 2003 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i fancy Wolves actually

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 15 May 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

as for the Division 1 play-offs, i have no idea...(badumdish)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 15 May 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

forest are the connoisseur's choice

Chip Morningstar (bob), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

oh no don't say that... I can't be supporting a Warnock team.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

you can support lincoln instead, the route one dreamteam

Chip Morningstar (bob), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

blades v forest about to ko

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 15 May 2003 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

David Johnson - GOAL for Forest !

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 15 May 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

what a match, sheffield united 3 v forest 2 now in extra time, only 8 miniutes to go.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 15 May 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

sounded like a good game. sorry i missed it. me and my brother's bet is still on...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 15 May 2003 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

and what a Match it was ...but the best is yet to come

Sheff Utd v Wolves - is set for a classic match up !

Davy "ex-saint/scummer whatever with a silly smirk [and loser last year], my job is on the line if we don't win this match" Jones
Wolves - have excellent recent form [unlike last year]
V
Neil "Mr Passionate Sheffield Utd - Slash me with a blade and I bleed steel" Warnock
Sheffield Utd - like big matches with pressure also Warnock's record in the play offs is excellent.

It's too close to call !

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 15 May 2003 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i fancy wolves actually

I ph34r for Luton's future...

Dave B (daveb), Saturday, 24 May 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

just watched the highlights of the finals
good to see wolves go up,given that they've been one of the big division one clubs for fucking ages but always seem to miss out
anyway, what was the personal situation involving dave jones alluded to throughout the commentry, from which he has now "bounced back"?

robin (robin), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:28 (twenty-two years ago)

anyway, what was the personal situation involving dave jones alluded to throughout the commentry, from which he has now "bounced back"?

After his playing career was over, DJ found employment at a residential school on Merseyside as a care worker in the mid-80s. About three years ago child abuse allegations stemming from this time were levelled against him; he was completely cleared of all charges in late 2000, but the enquiry cost him his job at Southampton.

Fortunately, *not* one of the Evertonians you could put in an ex-offender XI then.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 08:24 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah i vaguely remember that now that you mention it
the discretion of the commentators in not saying what had happened was somewhat undermined by the numerous allusions to it throughout the match

robin (robin), Thursday, 29 May 2003 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)

im disappointed wolves have gone up:(

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 29 May 2003 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm disappointed QPR haven't :(

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 May 2003 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 29 May 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

... though not really for QPR's sake.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 29 May 2003 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Do QPR fans now promise to stop believing they're a big club?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 29 May 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I doubt it. Though Cardiff will think they are now.

Hammam - 'we're thinking about the champions league, not the premiership'

fuzzy dream sequence fade out

Gary Newbon: Sam, how does it feel to be an asset-stripping cockfarmer who's full of shit?

One day, one day...

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 29 May 2003 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Cardiff now want to build a 60,000 seat stadium, despite having only just crawled out of Division Two. Mentalists.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 29 May 2003 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha. My cock.

Crystal ball gazing - they will play at the Millenium, and Sam will pocket development money for Ninian Park and the earmarked site...

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 29 May 2003 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm glad Wolves have gone up, but it doesn't cancel out my disappointment at WBA going down. One without the other is like a meal without cheese, as the French might say.
