Your Second Favourite ILX Band - COME AND SEE US!!

Obv we could never topple The PineFoxgloves as ILX's favourite rock and rollers, but all the same here's a shameless self promo ad for, after 15 years warming the bench, the return of :

A NATION MOURNS!

We're playing the Bull and Gate (where else!), Kentish Town, on Saturday 7th June. We're supporting Fractured and somebody else (possibly I, Ludicrous) and will be first band on. We're tuneful, noisy and Factoryish and Fractured are more Fall/Buzzcocks pop-punk.

It would be great to have a beer with any London ILX-ers or indeed any ILX-ers who happen to be in town - so come and see us!!

If you are thinking of coming, it's best to get there early-ish (8 - 8.30-ish), as all Fractured gigs to date have sold out, and also since we're on early you wouldn't want to miss us, would you? I think it's £4.50/£4.00 (conc) to get in.

Hope some of you can make it.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:13 (twenty-three years ago)

i was about to email you about this dr c! anna and i are going to see the yeah yeah yeahs at the forum that evening, so we're hoping that the timing will be right to see you first, then them, then maybe a drink with you afterwards?

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Sounds great, Toby! Look forward to it!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Wouldn't miss it for the world, Dr C!

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be there! Grand! I haven't been to the Bull and Gate for *yonks*.

(I so KNEW this was a Dr C thread)!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Gee, it's nice to have your ENTIRE LIFE'S WORK SO BLOODY IGNORED.

Yeah, I know. The Lollies never even made the top ten, but it would be nice to even be mentioned. So no, I'm not going to see your band. So there.

kate, Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:36 (twenty-three years ago)

(that reminds, me, did you ever get round to making me that Buggles cd?)

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Kate, please don't feel bad - the definition I had in mind was of bands comprised entirely of ilxaz. So I haven't been dissing The Lollies.

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Ricky - no, but I can do. Still want it?

Kate - uh?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:49 (twenty-three years ago)

It's stupid that this upsets me. I need to take a break from this place.

kate, Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Dr C: ooooh, yes please.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry - I'm not with you Kate, what's upsetting you?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Nothing to do with anything. It just means that I'm having issues to do with something totally unrelated which made me totally oversensitive and prone to outbursts that make no sense and are out of context and I'm upset about something else, and I don't want to go off on one here.

Good luck with your gig, Dr. C - I hope it goes really well.

kate, Thursday, 15 May 2003 10:03 (twenty-three years ago)

(dr c - could i have a copy of this buggles cd, too? i'll do you something in return...)

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 15 May 2003 10:22 (twenty-three years ago)

no ILX0r has ever seen my band play, nor bought one of our CDs. yet somehow i still make it through the day.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 15 May 2003 10:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Hm... Mr. Electric Sound O' Jim, I thought for sure that I had a 7" by your band? Maybe I am confused.

marianna, Thursday, 15 May 2003 10:50 (twenty-three years ago)

possible that you do actually (actually a few people here have the album but they got it freeeee)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 15 May 2003 10:51 (twenty-three years ago)

oh I forgot to say - there will be a rare sighting of a proper POP STAR singing with one of the bands on the night. Yes, a proper **POP STAR** - with top ten hits and stuff! I wonder who?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 15 May 2003 14:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been banned from speculating on the identity of anonymous people.

Yazz! You're a caution, Starry!

Similar voice to Mr. Oakey.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 15 May 2003 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Like I said, Yazz!

(Doh)

Er I cannot think of any other 80s artist. GARY NUMAN? Trevor Horn?! Nick Rhodes? One of them from Spandau Ballet?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 15 May 2003 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

there's some great 12 ft lizards action in it forya if you look into kate's band at allmusic

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 16 May 2003 07:12 (twenty-three years ago)

What do you mean JB? (Sorry I'm thick today)

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:29 (twenty-three years ago)

*insert eerie music here*

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:38 (twenty-three years ago)

She wrote a Magnetic Fields type song about a hardcore rap band? Sounds alright in a weird way.

All your bands sound like 80s rubbish! Meh!

Jason Simone, Friday, 16 May 2003 11:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Meh! suggests excitement, and then it wouldn't really be a statement of mehness.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:48 (twenty-three years ago)

No. I don't believe I was suggesting excitement. It was moreorless a meh that you would do at a cut-out bin. "Meh."

Jason Simon, Friday, 16 May 2003 11:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Blancmange! Fantastic!

"Blind Vision" is the distilled essence of 1983 record-in-New-York-with-name-producer-and-acquire-horn-section fabulousness.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:49 (twenty-three years ago)

It absolutely is, MJ.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:22 (twenty-three years ago)

there's some great 12 ft lizards action in it forya if you look into kate's band at allmusic

Yeah, I'd watch out for that reviewer.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 May 2003 18:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Update - we're on at the very un-rock and roll time of 8.30. So plenty of time for fun, beer, another gig etc after!

Must write some songs. (Note to self/band : must not spend entire rehearsal time programming the sequencer!)

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 22 May 2003 11:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh no! Unprogrammed sequencer! OH NO!

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 22 May 2003 11:52 (twenty-three years ago)

would've replied to the email you sent me but since this threads is here: might come along but not sure yet. anyway, have a good gig.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 22 May 2003 11:57 (twenty-three years ago)

should be there, but will prolly leave straight after Dr. C's set for the Blue Posts to say hi & happy birthday to Martin.

How will I recognise you, Dr. C? What do you play? Are you the singer?

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 5 June 2003 08:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll check this out

dave q, Thursday, 5 June 2003 09:33 (twenty-three years ago)

he's the very tall one with glasses mark, you can't miss him :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 5 June 2003 09:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh hell - people *are* coming! I will be the tallest one onstage Mark, and will wield a red guitar and possibly some drumsticks. Won't sing much. DQ-don't expect pomp rock.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 5 June 2003 10:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Not long now - sewing sequins on stage suit as we speak.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 6 June 2003 14:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Go forth and sparkle! Report results!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 June 2003 15:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Dr. C - i'm afraid timings w/ yeah yeah yeahs make it unlikely we're going to be able to see you. v sorry. have you got any more gigs lined up yet?

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 7 June 2003 15:09 (twenty-three years ago)

should be there, but will prolly leave straight after Dr. C's set for the Blue Posts to say hi & happy birthday to Martin.

I'll be along as well but, er, I don't know what Dr C looks like...

DG (D_To_The_G), Saturday, 7 June 2003 16:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I promise I'll try extra maximum hard (i.e. I'll give it at least 110%) to make it the next time you play, Dr C!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 8 June 2003 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Blimey - people *liked* us! It was a great night! First off thanks to Starry, Pete, K-Tee, Mark H, Ricky T and DG for coming along and being all supportive and nice and stuff. (DG - sorry I didn't come over and say hello).

After 17 years ANM are back! We really enjoyed it and will definitely be doing another one soon. We should be able to play at the B+G pretty much any time since we brought a shitload of people (and actually made a few quid too).

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 07:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll copme again if you get a Busted! cover under your belt. A fun evening (sorry I had to nick off early but someone was getting older).

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

s'OK Dr C, I liked yr band!

DG (D_To_The_G), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)
