What do you understand by this statement?

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:48 (twenty-two years ago)

What, linguistically?

alix (alix), Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Semantically? Pragmatically? Both?

alix (alix), Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I am tired of being dragged down by coke snorting rappers, it's basically just a polite way of saying "excuse me Ronan, you're fighting a losing battle here my friend, perhaps you should bow out and let me proceed this time, you old codger you".

I mean if you're trying to be arrogant at least just be direct and blunt and don't tiptoe around me.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 15 May 2003 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

It means you're Roy Keane.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 May 2003 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

To me it says, studying linguistics has broken your brain, Alix.

alix (alix), Thursday, 15 May 2003 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

This is such a Gareth thread.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

It's the kind of thing someone who doesn't like losing would say. The last word confirms their aggresive dislike of not succeading.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it American for "Hi, how are you?"?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it Deep Blue's first use of its voice synthesiser?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll take "things the press edit out of George Dubya's speeches" for $500, Alex.

(My personal interpretation is that right in the middle of intimidating you the gentleperson drops something heavy on their own foot)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 15 May 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

it's the name of an album containing 50 ways to not lose your lover, an album so good it is the best one in the world...........ever.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 15 May 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

The Best Ways to Not Lose Your Lover In the World... Ever. Fucker.

"Get confident, stupid"

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 15 May 2003 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

It means totaly victory, and that you are inferior.

Mike Hanle y (mike), Thursday, 15 May 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

For whatever reason, when I read the statement the context that sprung to mind was basketball. Like a game of one-on-one or something.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 15 May 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

That phrase reminds me of the time this grad student teaching assistant dickweed gave me a hard time and wrote some bogus criticism on an essay of mine, somehow putting my grade for the course in jeopardy or whatever. I don't remember all the details, just that my dad told me to tell this guy something to the effect of, "I'm going to get so good at this that one day I'll be your boss, and then I'll fire your ass."

Stuart (Stuart), Thursday, 15 May 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

it's why there won't be a Rat Pack when Shawny goes Vegas

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 16 May 2003 03:57 (twenty-two years ago)
