I thought this thread was going to be about sandwiches!

Steak and Cheese on Hearty Italian with Garlic Mayo, hold the peppers.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

It can be about any sort of sub, I'm not fussed.

There can be only one - David Fairclough

chris (chris), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr Sub Assorted with mushrooms, green peppers, onion, no cheese, extra pickles and sub sauce.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

On a serious note, I think I'm going to be liking Obafemi Martins over the next few seasons. A combination of his bug-eyes, resemblance to a scarier version of Roots Manuva, and his ability to run really fast in a straight line, irrespective of whether or not he's got the ball, or is still on the pitch, is going to endear the man to me.

Just remember that football is hockey on grass and then you will be inducted into the terminology soon enough. ;-)

A nice turkey and swiss sub with mushroom and onions is one of the most enjoyable things on this planet.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

The Kursk.

Depends, as always, on the quality of the bread.

Only the other day we were wondering why branches of Subway were popping up in EasyEverythings/EasyInterwebCaffs. I decided it was for the American tourists for a taste of home. I can't think of any other reason to have a blimming subway sandwich.

Although a Vic Godard tribute band of the same name would be BRILLIANT. Think you could get sponsorship?

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Subway, ewww. Their subs are gross. I don't think they're even proper food. Give me a real deli sub anyday!

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

well i dont like man u, but you really have to take your hat off for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer. though i guess hes much less of a sub these days, and gets to start a hell of a lot more

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

David Beckham.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely *hockey* = *ice* hockey on grass. Field hockey rox0r, U R ALL AMERICAN. (or Canadian.)

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

field hockey super subs = penalty corner specialists

they are so cool, they only come on for 2 minutes to score a goal! Like an assassin, or something. And then they sit back and laugh at the fools running around all day getting hit by sticks and bullet balls.

field hockey = (soccey?)

Shaun Maloney.

Thirded for Solskjaer.

tony cascarino!

not at Celtic he wasn't. In a few seasons filled with crap strikers at Parkhead, he was one of the worst. Though I did once see him come on as a sub against Hearts, score and then get sent off almost straight away for punching Craig Levein. Those were the days...

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 15 May 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

The Nautilus of course

I'm so hungry. I like Subway, but Jimmy John's is usually better due to the use of guacamole, which should be required by law. Also their bread is better. I like subs but I never make them at home...you need too many veggies to make a good veggie sub and I never have veggies around. I wish hummous was an option at Subway.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 16 May 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

It's all about Quizno's Sierra Smoked Turkey. I almost can't deal with Subway anymore knowing there's a Quizno's around (Togo's is OK too).

But actually, have you tried the Seaview?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 16 May 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Jose Dominguez, least effective supersub of all time but I loved him.

Matt (Matt), Friday, 16 May 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Shaun Goater.

Daniel (dancity), Friday, 16 May 2003 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

One off supersubs:

Nigel Spink in Villa's European Cup win, coming on to make his debut in goal after just 10 minutes;

Nayim for Spurs after Gazza's self-inflicted calamity in the 1991 Cup final (oh, to say this on today of all days !) - turned the game around in the second half and set up Stewart's equaliser when if La Gaz had stayed on we'd have been probably down to ten men.

(kind of off-kilter one, this) The retired Mario Andretti stepping in as a late replacement for a grieving Ferrari team at Monza 1982, reeling from Didier Pironi's career-ending accident hot on the heels of Gilles Villeneuve's fatal crash the same year, and taking an emotional pole position.
