"U R ALL GAY" - classic or dud

this phrase seems to get used a lot lately, including by me.

but is this ironic reappropriation of homophobia actually that acceptable? I might not think so were I that way inclined myself.

so maybe we should stop this now?

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

of course, the "UR ALL GAY" thing is arguably a pisstake of people who think gayness is something inherently amusing, like these people here: http://www.buddyhead.com/other/hessian/love/page/

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

dude "U R ALL GAY" = classic U R ALL GAY!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Dud phrase.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

We are all gay, right?

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, I think it can be rather funny the way it's used 'round here, as a sorta satire of it's usage on other message boards, where people can be such TOTAL FRIGGIN CLOSEMINDED PIGHEADED DOUCHEBAGS, who think they're funny no less.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I just can't believe it took this long for this thread.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Your all gay.

hstencil, Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I love that link stencedawg. I especially love that they spelled it "your" and not "you're". Tre chic!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

on websites where the posters are primarily homosexual, do you get loads of assertions like "U R ALL NOT GAY, BARBRA STREISAND RoXoR"?

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to start saying "U R ALL NOT GAY".

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

How about "*** R0XX0R U R ALL JEWS"

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

When did David Blaine start playing for the Nets???

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Personally I move to ditch the 'U R ALL' schtick completely since it was near death before this thread and is now completely and totally lacking in all funny.

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

SUCH & SUCH ROXX, U R ALL SCISSORS

(See, cause like, Rock/Paper/Scissors, and Rock beats Scissors.)

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

http://profess.baseball.sportsline.com/images/news/cudafan.jpg

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, exactly. It was becoming only funny in the metaironic way which is never good. Now it's associated with that picture and Moby for fuck's sake!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't like this usage. I don't really take umbrage at it's use here b/c of the reasons Nickalicious states above. However you don't ever see me using it. I feel too strongly about it how this is usually used (especially by the age level I teach) and spend too much time fighting it to engage in pisstake.

In class today we had a discussion about the use of "nigga" vs. "nigger" and how you can tell them apart - - and when you can't. There is a very subtle line you risk crossing with phrases like this which makes them, in my mind, not worth using. There are better terms.

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

But what about John Stuart Mill?!?!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I have mentioned Poison more times than anyone else in this bitch!

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

no no, pIOson!

maybe it's not that funny, I dunno.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Do we really need to discuss whether or not we should use certain phrases or not? Damn interweb mentalists

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

why does mark s use the phrase "pioson roxx" so much?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

ah! now I see!

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

ALL UR GAYS ARE BELONG TO US

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It needs to be used sparingly. I think I was the first to use it here but I may be imagining this.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

(I'm sorry, I'm still laughing at "ALL UR GAYS ARE BELONG TO US".)

Matt (Matt), Thursday, 22 May 2003 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Unless it's a pizza pie cannon, in which case point it this way pronto.

slutsky (slutsky), Thursday, 22 May 2003 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Why do I get so annoyed by the phrase 'pizza pie'?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 22 May 2003 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

it hits your eye?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 22 May 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

But wasn't the trendiness started by a googler who wrote something to the effect of "Poison Rock U R All Gay" where Poison was some band or another.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 22 May 2003 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

when the moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie that's a FUCKING NATURAL DISASTER! THINK OF THE TIDES! THINK OF THE IMPACT! (yippee cay yay motherfuckers etc)

i think that Matt is the British Hanle y.

Tad (llamasfur), Thursday, 22 May 2003 06:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's be honest...

All these soundbites that become 'hip' and get used ad infinitum are totally, inherently IRRITATING and CRAP. It's the death of imagination and having anything useful/interesting/witty to say.

Haha. Really.

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Thursday, 22 May 2003 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

yeh but christine, wassssssupppppp?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 22 May 2003 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Nothing. Unfortunately.

I do think the new trend ought to be, everyone just keeps going baaaaaaaaaaaa -- it's a lot simpler and to the point.

I think it could catch on!

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Thursday, 22 May 2003 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)
