Cos I certainly don't.

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 16 May 2003 07:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, I must have started this at exactly the same time as Pete's thread. (Great minds ....)

Can a kindly moderator delete this one please?

Thanks.

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 16 May 2003 07:38 (twenty-three years ago)

no keep it! let's start a bloodbath!

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 16 May 2003 07:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't but don't tempt me James!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 16 May 2003 07:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I wouldn't mind Arsenal winning, I quite like them.

I'll find it hard not to support any team with Chris Marsden's haircut in it though.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 08:01 (twenty-three years ago)

and Marsden has been declared fit, so he's playing.

chris (chris), Friday, 16 May 2003 08:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyone with that haircut is fit.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 08:06 (twenty-three years ago)

i think i want Arsenal to win, cos if they don't it will just make Man U fans even more smug, and we can't have that can we?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 16 May 2003 08:21 (twenty-three years ago)

are Southampton in the UEFA Cup next season regardless? if so does this seem fairer than giving the Europe place to Everton?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 16 May 2003 08:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Arsene is still smug enough to think his charges are the best team in England, so bring on a Southampton victory.

Damian (Damian), Friday, 16 May 2003 08:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I would like Arsenal to win & as such will be cheering them on in the pub tomorrow. I am a fulham fan and a leeds fan by default (the boy supports them!) so i was cheering on leeds in the game that gave Man U the title. I do like Arsenal anyway & would like them to win something, not just as a consolation...well ok yes as a consolation to losing to leeds & in turn losing the title!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:31 (twenty-three years ago)

are Southampton in the UEFA Cup next season regardless? if so does this seem fairer than giving the Europe place to Everton?

Yes, I think it is (and I'm an Evertonian). It retains the FA Cup's special status, as if there was still a third European club competition for its winners. So, if the Worthington cup winners qualify for Europe by some other route, the UEFA Cup spot goes to a further Premiership place, and if the FA Cup winners are also Champions' League qualifiers, the runners-up should get that pretend ECWC place (a la Liverpool in '96; which actually now = UEFA Cup place).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:31 (twenty-three years ago)

which cup final hero are you?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/fa_cup/3023691.stm

depressingly, I'm eric cantona

chris (chris), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm Freddie Ljungberg.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:17 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm sure i'm Paul Rideout

stevem (blueski), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan, did you have to answer the hidden question "Are you a confirmed bachelor who enjoys going to musicals?"?

(Amusing euphamism taken from a Freddie interview a while back. He went on to rave about 'Mamma Mia' which he'd just gone to see.)

Pleased with my result in the quiz - Mark Hughes.

Has anyone got Bobby Stokes yet?

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:35 (twenty-three years ago)

No, I got Kevin Keegan, I have a feeling that's not too great

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:43 (twenty-three years ago)

It was in 1974

chris (chris), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I am Trevor Brooking sadly.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:52 (twenty-three years ago)

im little man Owen, i hate micheal Owen.

In answer to your question properly torn, the leeds conection with Strachan is strong and i'd love him to walk away with something as he is the dude. I agree with stevem that smug man u fans is never a good thing though.

Personally on a great day like fa cup day i hope british football is the winner and i get drunk

8-7 to southampton in extra time with 9 men a piece left on the pitch

james (james), Friday, 16 May 2003 15:07 (twenty-three years ago)

i am a neutral and want arsenal to win,i've never seen anyone play football that's such a joy to watch as arsenal did at the start of the season,i want to see them become the greatest team ever, constantly playing football like that
(i support villa,so there's no real conflict of interst-its hardly going to be us)

robin (robin), Friday, 16 May 2003 15:10 (twenty-three years ago)

can one be a neutral and want either team to win? < /smartass>

and never in the history of time would I support Arsenal.

3-1 to Southampton. Someone will get a red card, 67 minutes.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 16 May 2003 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Blimey, I'm Glenn Hoddle - principled on a lot of things, but I lose it when the need arises.

Daniel (dancity), Friday, 16 May 2003 21:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I want Arsenal to win because I have fond memories of being stuck on a bus by Arsenal.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 16 May 2003 21:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay! Teddy Sheringham!

Matt (Matt), Friday, 16 May 2003 22:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I want THE WEE MAN to have a bit of managerial success.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Saturday, 17 May 2003 09:38 (twenty-three years ago)

southampton are my 2nd favourite english team (it stems from my childhood liking for matt le tissier), so obv i'm up for them. it's not that i have anything in particular against arsenal, y'know? i'm going to miss the first half doing a bloody exam...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Saturday, 17 May 2003 09:48 (twenty-three years ago)

1-0 to Arsenal, a dramatic Ashley Cole block on the line in the last seconds of injury time. Quite an exciting final, mostly, but Southampton didn't have the flair to create enough.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 17 May 2003 15:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yay for arsenal!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 17 May 2003 15:01 (twenty-three years ago)

My early tip wasn't quite proved right, but I'm happy for my old pals who are Arsenal fans, including Andrew L.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 17 May 2003 15:03 (twenty-three years ago)

i predicted 1-0 Arsenal with the goal to come from Bergkamp, oh well 1 out of 2 aint bad

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 17 May 2003 15:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Wow, what a boring game.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 17 May 2003 16:08 (twenty-three years ago)

A Spurs fan speaks! I thought there was some goalmouth excitement, a couple of great saves, a full-back from each team clearing it off the line and some good skill. I didn't think it was a bad final.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 17 May 2003 16:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't see the start, so I spent most of the game worrying about the fact that it looked like they were in Japan. Not until the news came on did I realise it was because they were playing with the roof closed. I think that's terrible. Also I hate the way every trophy presentation looks the same now - confetti cannons and a bit of half-hearted jigging up and down.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Sunday, 18 May 2003 08:44 (twenty-three years ago)

whats the big deal about the roof being closed? and haven't trophy presentations in this country always all lookd the same?

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 May 2003 10:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought the roof was a dud, the sky is a necessary part of the FA Cup, and the celebrations etc.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 May 2003 11:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Miller = otm, awful celebrations.

And that was the worst final since Liverpool-Manyoo in 1995, dire dreadful stuff, no flair, nothing.

Vicky (Vicky), Sunday, 18 May 2003 11:32 (twenty-three years ago)

the sky is a necessary part of the FA Cup

??? unless you mean Murdoch

it was pissing down with rain which rarely happens on Cup Final day, but i figure a closed roof/dry pitch boosts player morale and attitude which in turn should mean a better game for them as opposed to one where they're covered in water and mud and the ball is unable to travel as well. always fun to watch 'em slipping and falling on the arses tho.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 May 2003 11:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I just think I'm used to seeing the FA Cup played in the open, basically I don't have a rational reason but I didn't like the indoor thing.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 May 2003 12:04 (twenty-three years ago)

are yoy bothered cos its not at Wembley? that ties in with the open-air thing...personally i think the Millennium Stadium looks great and is better than Wembley which despite the rich heritage and romanticism was an absoulute dump

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 May 2003 12:08 (twenty-three years ago)

the pitch was fucking horrible too, not surprising though seeing as they olny laid it about a week ago. It's just not good enough. And I bet Strachan would have preferred the roof open.

chris (chris), Sunday, 18 May 2003 12:14 (twenty-three years ago)

So he could jump higher?

Cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 18 May 2003 13:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I had 2-0, Pires to score first, and 2-0 with Pires to score first. 1 goal off of £100. Still, I came out a tenner better, so, hey ho.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 18 May 2003 14:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Some teams cope better with the rain than others. For instance, Barcelona, mighty mighty Barcelona, often blame poor results against Gijon on the rain, as if that makes everything all right. So the weather conditions are a valid factor in a football match and doing away with them is just one more step on the road to making football antiseptic.

Also, I hate progress.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 19 May 2003 16:08 (twenty-three years ago)

you Sir are a Ruddy Luddite ;)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 19 May 2003 17:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Southampton's loss was not about lack of flair. It was about not getting the ball up to the big lad upfront quickly enough.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 07:41 (twenty-three years ago)

exactly, whither Kevin Davies and his mighty arse?

chris (chris), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 07:53 (twenty-three years ago)

To be fair (note easy slip into manager speak) they did try, but the boy Luznhy decided to have the game of his life. Beattie and Omerod were willing but sometimes, it's just not your day. I thought they should have brought Telfer off on 60 minutes for Fernandes. I am thus cleverer than the wee man.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 08:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought they should have brought Telfer off on 60 minutes for Fernandes. I am thus cleverer than the wee man.

The rumour amongst the Southampton fans at work (there are three, funnily enough, and no Arsenal fans) is that Fabrice was told to get ready around the 65min mark and just sulked down by the corner flag, so miffed was he by not starting.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 09:27 (twenty-three years ago)

whatever happened to Marian Pahars by the way? he seems to have completely disappeared

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 09:44 (twenty-three years ago)

He's still at Southampton, but hanging out with Vegard Heggem on the Injured Forever list.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 09:47 (twenty-three years ago)

A shame, he was probably the second best Latvian in the English league, behind his national captain and Bristol Rovers midfielder Vitaly Astafievs (sp?).

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 11:34 (twenty-three years ago)

What an epitath.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 12:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Although it's not meant in this Martin, being called the 'second best Latvian in the English League' has to be a textbook example of damning with faint praise.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, the English league's much better than it used to be, y'know!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 13:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No it's not.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 13:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Southampton's loss was not about lack of flair. It was about not getting the ball up to the big lad upfront quickly enough.
-- Tim (hopkinsti...), May 20th, 2003. (later)

Tim, Gerrard Houllier appears to have hacked your ILX account.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 13:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Astafievs is a top player! Latvia's most capped player ever, and the one Latvia game I saw (vs Scotland so on TV) he was the best player on the pitch.

Really it was just another excuse to mention Bristol Rovers.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 16:31 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
i am a neutral

i would like arsenal to win

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm neutral. I just don't care who wins.

The Champhionship Play-Offs are where the real entertainment is.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, me too, very much, but I think Utd will do them, again, in spite of everything.

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

absolutely want Arsenal to win. to annihilate them hopefully.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I am neutral, but lean towards Arsenal because two of my very best friends (including Andrew L, found around here at times) are Arsenal fans.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 12 May 2005 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Arsenal please. I want Manchester United's fall from grace to be swift and remorseless.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 12 May 2005 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Arsenal, 7-0

Baaderonixx (it must be a camel) (Fabfunk), Thursday, 12 May 2005 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

What I would really like is a replay in Sheffield, like in the olden days.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 12 May 2005 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to admit I'm with Mark on this one. Like seeing Liverpool make the Champions League final without Michael Owen, seeing MU fail with Smith and Ferdinand will prove quite pleasant.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 12 May 2005 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd like Arsenal to win, plus Man Utd to be mercilessly asset-stripped by Glazer and wind up in the Championship in, say, 4 seasons time.

TV's Mr Noodle Vague (noodle vague), Thursday, 12 May 2005 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Man Utd 4 - 1 Arsenal

X-PAT (nordicskilla), Thursday, 12 May 2005 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Unlikely, adam. 1-0, 2-1 either team winning I can see but I don't see this as a blowout.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 12 May 2005 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I have been arguing all day on the AFC Wimbledon board about the Man U takeover (do we have a thread for it? I should check) and the possible formation of FC United. Surprisingly, most of our fans are pro-United ('s supporters, not the club) as their fans apparently gave us a lot of support during our Troubles.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 12 May 2005 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I dearly want Man Utd to run them ragged, but sadly can't see it happening. Manyoo have looked pretty lacklustre in recent weeks while the Arse are the form team right now.

I think Ruud Van Nistelrooy might actually DIE out there on that pitch, mind.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 12 May 2005 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I want Arsenal to stick the knife in and twist it, I think a Keane own goal may just make my year if it happened to be the winner

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 12 May 2005 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I want United fans to invade the pitch and bring the fucker to a standstill with the world watching. sadly, too many Arsenal fans will do what they did at OT earlier in the season and start chanting, WWF stylee, U-S-A.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 12 May 2005 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

FUCK Arsenal. Are you fucking kidding? I mean fuck them. Yeah?

David Merryweather (DavidM), Thursday, 12 May 2005 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

ios there a neutral anywhere who wants Manchester United to win?

(er that is who theyre playing, right? Palace dont have much time to worry about this shit)

i am bemused by the presumption of this thread...

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 13 May 2005 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Ambrose - if you look at the top of the thread you'll see it was about Arsenal playing Southampton in the final two years ago.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Friday, 13 May 2005 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)
