Instant classic. Near great bars and shops. Stone's throw from downtown. Each room is different. And the shirtless guy. Well do I need to say anymore?

Is the sign supposed to be so phallic?

jel -- (jel), Friday, 16 May 2003 18:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Does it not please the eye Jel?

That Girl (thatgirl), Friday, 16 May 2003 18:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I was just thinking, what if the owners had never realised how phallic it was? That would be the greatest thing ever!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 16 May 2003 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, they know. It's a popular joke.

I tried to tell Neudonym about this plac ewhen he came to Austin, but did he listen? NoooOOOOooooo.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 16 May 2003 18:41 (twenty-three years ago)

The restaurant is El Sol y La Luna = I want to go.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 16 May 2003 19:40 (twenty-three years ago)

It's okay. They're migas aren't the best in town

But BOOO as of tonight Austin Motel is booked. I got a room at the suites behind Ego's, but will keep trying Austin Motel for cancellations. I've never stayed in another Austin hotel room!!!

hotel saint cecilia is just off congress, really beautiful, but probably way more expensive.

ryan, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 16:22 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, had looked @ san jose, so pricey in comparison

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 16:25 (thirteen years ago)

if you wanna be near the south congress action i believe there's a hyatt and an embassy suites closer to the bridge. most of the boutique hotels close to the shops and restaurants are expensive. hell, i saw robert plant walking a chihuahua in that neighborhood. don't let the affectation of laid-backness fool you!

ryan, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 16:28 (thirteen years ago)

give me the real slacker experience where ever that might be that rooms are as cheap/reasonable as austin motel - i realize this might be non-existent, but worth askin'

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 16:33 (thirteen years ago)

you might have some luck looking in east austin. tons of bars and restaurants as well and definitely a younger crowd. just googling a bit i found this one just 5 blocks from east 6th street: https://www.heywoodhotel.com/

tho of course "reasonable" is the tough part :-/

ryan, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 17:02 (thirteen years ago)

there's also a "light rail" stop in east austin that takes you downtown. it's not terribly far to walk but it does save some time.

ryan, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 17:03 (thirteen years ago)

There are some nice Austin places on airbnb, IIRC.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 9 January 2013 17:49 (thirteen years ago)
