jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 23 May 2003 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Ho ho!

Clausen rulez this thread.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 23 May 2003 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Pickled cucumbers, except cornichons once in awhile = dud. I don't know why. I like cucumbers. I like pickled things. I don't like pickled cucumbers. Especially on sandwiches or burgers.

Pickled garlic = classic.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 23 May 2003 04:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Pickled garlic is so damned good - I like pickled almost anything.

Except pigs feet.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 23 May 2003 04:45 (twenty-two years ago)

pickles rule. smoked ham + tomato/chilli pickle in a sandwich = droooooooooooooooool

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Friday, 23 May 2003 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Best thing I have ever eaten: Cherry Hot Fire, purchased at a roadside stand. Sweet relish, jalapeno peppers, and cherries. Pickled, of course. Mix it with black eyed peas = sheer bliss.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 23 May 2003 04:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, also good - pickled pork, but just for seasoning things (greens, beans, stews, etc.)

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 23 May 2003 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I once thought of using this thread title but couldn't bring myself to do it.

anyway pickles are classic any day of the week.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 23 May 2003 05:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Them big sour kosher pickles. More expensive than your average dills but worth it.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Friday, 23 May 2003 05:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Salt Preserved, food my current obsession. Pickled onions, pickled, cucumbers, be the Hamisha, dill or cornichons, japanese pickles, mmmmmmmmm just mmmmmmmm pickles.

Ed (dali), Friday, 23 May 2003 06:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Spreewld pickles -- mmm,mmm, good!

Wilfred Pickles. First regional accent on BBC News.

robster (robster), Friday, 23 May 2003 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

We haven't even gone near the realm of godlike genius that is the Korean pickle. Crunchy, hot as a tap pit and more fun than your mouth can have with mere food.

Eastern european fried cheese with a big load of pickle on the side. Red Cabbidge! I really should get down to pickling myself one day.

PICKLED EGGS!
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 May 2003 08:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Pete you're well on the way to pickling yourself.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 23 May 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Kimchiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

king of pickles.

Ed (dali), Friday, 23 May 2003 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Point taken.

Hmm, pickled onions too big to fit in your mouth meaning juicty squirt when taking first bite of sharp as fuck malt vinegar making ones eyes water. Heaven.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 May 2003 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

mmmm pickled onions are yummy!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 23 May 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

no one has love for the SWEET GHERKIN like i do

chaki (chaki), Friday, 23 May 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I did, but I just can't hack sweet stuff like that - if it's pickled, it has to be sour and spicy and... yummm.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 23 May 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was little I wanted to be Jewish because I thought it was all about the kosher pickles. Protestant pickles were sweet and dud.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 23 May 2003 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Revive!

I love pickles - I'm amazed I didn't post to this thread before. Pickled onions obviously rule, but I've recently been eating falafel with a bizarre pickled vegetable (or possibly fruit) - it looks a bit like a small, elongated onion from the outside, but it has a more leafy structure to it and has a central... tongue, I dunno how to describe it, that seems almost like it belongs in a flower. It's also dark bright pink in colour. What could it be?

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Some sort of chilli?

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm surprised I didn't see this either!

I am a pickle maniac. I'll take out the jar of pickles, grab a fork, and have at it. I love sweet midgets and dill spears the best, but I am open to lots of different pickle formats. Whenever I get a sandwhich, I always ask for extra pickles which has produced the "ARe you pregnant, mam?" question a few too many times.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you pregnant, mam?

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm gonna slap you with a big pickle, Mark C!

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't encourage him!

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah in randy tranny shocker!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

ARGH! I just laughed at that so hard one of my ribs popped!

Kimchi is the pickled ambrosia of the gods themselves. I'll eat this straight out of the jar.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Mount Olive pickles >>> Vlasic or Clausen any day.

Girolamo Savonarola, Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I shouldn't have read this thread but I just couldn't help myself, and now I want pickled onions, a whole jar of baby pickled onions and I can't have them, coz I'm allergic and it's NOT FAIR!

smee (smee), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, can I have yours, then?

Chris P (Chris P), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Shut it! I want pickled onions RIGHT NOW! I want Pickled onion Monster Munch! I wanna eat a whole jar of pickled onions then drink the vinegar!!!!!!!

smee (smee), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Tabasco peppers, man. Or banana peppers. Or garlic pickled with habanero.

(I only like pickled cucumbers when they're homemade and fresh -- sliced cucumbers, vinegar, chiles, garlic, let sit 6-72 hours. They're not so much pickled as vinegar-marinated. Crispy and spicy. I'm going to go make some right now.)

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry Chris kinda lost there in my pickle craving fury....

smee (smee), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Smee, surely you can have the Monster Munch, unless they're the only crisp in the world that actually uses genuine ingredients...

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm afraid that I shall go mental at the mere suggestion of pickle taste and fall off the wagon....

It's the horrible things they use to make the flavours, I'm allergic to those too :0(

See now I sound all poor me - knew i should'nt have read this. Next thing somebody will start a coffee thread and I'll sink into a deep depression!

smee (smee), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Dastoor to thread...

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

warm soggy pickles are a HORRIBLE THING. i find pickles vary quite widely in quality. big, not too dark, crunchy, deli-fresh pickles are quite good. though i prefer pickled tomatoes.

jody: best thread title ever.

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 28 August 2003 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i sometimes buy pickled ginger to make sushi and then just end up eating the pickled ginger.

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 28 August 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

the turkish store near me has huge vats of assorted picled vegetables for about £5 - they are immense: about 5 litres and look pretty good. one day i will buy one.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I like pickled cucumbers much more than when I first responded to this thread, I'm just very picky about them, and I still never get them on sandwiches unless I'm making the sandwich myself.

I don't know but I'll find out when I get paid on Friday and go grocery shopping, because this thread has made me crave cornishons like i cannot BELIEVE. although when we used to buy them from the dutch import store in grand rapids they were labelled "gherkins" so I'm mildly confused.

wholesale customer at work sent 3 jars of homemade pickles to the office today! tbh i am only a recent pickle fan but man these are good. Should i fry some??

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 24 September 2009 22:06 (sixteen years ago)

If they're that good, I wouldn't. I'd just have a couple with a grilled cheese sandwich.

Hugh Manatee (WmC), Thursday, 24 September 2009 22:43 (sixteen years ago)

Wrong, if they're that good, eat them with your fingers straight out of the jar.

I am obsessed with dill pickles because although my mother made them homemade when I was a kid, I grew up in a non-dill-pickle country where they were not available to buy in the grocery store and the ~5 jars she made were not enough for a whole year. I now live in a dill-pickle-abundant country. It's awesome.

franny glass, Thursday, 24 September 2009 23:08 (sixteen years ago)

pickles are amazing.

mark cl, Friday, 25 September 2009 03:58 (sixteen years ago)

good ones, at least. soggy pickles are nasty - they must have some crunch to them

mark cl, Friday, 25 September 2009 03:58 (sixteen years ago)

(and fried pickles are unreal)

mark cl, Friday, 25 September 2009 03:58 (sixteen years ago)

i've been getting into other pickled foods, pepperoncinis especially. i still love dill pickles but my default sandwich accompaniment is now pepperoncinis

mark cl, Friday, 25 September 2009 03:59 (sixteen years ago)

fried pickles are awesome, as are most other varieties of pickled things. laughed at this:

what will happen to you if you eat a whole jar of pickles?
― strng hlkngtn: what does it mean? (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, October 18, 2005 12:17 AM (3 years ago) Bookmark

because when i was probably 8 or 9 my sister and i kept asking my dad for more pickle slices out of a dill jar in the fridge until he finally just said, "take the jar, eat as many as you want." and we devoured that jar so fast that he never said anything like that to us again.

in other pickle news, i stopped by a friend's place in delaware last month on the way home from the beach and she had just finished her pickling for the summer:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/gypsyfrocksbedlam/IMG_2313.jpg

she gave us one jar of each, i'm still eating my way through. they're good.
