TS:"Backspace" vs "Delete"

Isn't it just common sense that you would want to go BACK over a mistake you have just made, rather than go to the beginning of it? That's why god made powerbooks.

But editing a document you'll often be moving through a sentence from beginning to end, so if you do the same with the cursor then "delete" comes into its own.

at least having the option to do either is nice, unlike in my COCKFARMING STUDENT RECORD SYSTEM where one can only delete in most fields...

Gotta be backspace

Wait - was Nordicskillz's question about function or terminology?

Aren't we forgetting something?

Ladies and gentleman, I give you...

... Ctrl-X!

Ctrl-X? It's all C-w over here, I'm afraid. Or C-a C-k C-k.

(emacs users reprazent!)

Function, I guess. But we can broaden the discussion, by all means.

Teaching your mum the difference between the two: dud or dud?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 23 May 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you explain what your question means to an idiot? Cause I don't understand it. It's all about where the cursor has to be when you correct the mistake, yes? So yeah - it is usually just after the mistake, so 'delete' is rarely useful in regular typing. So that's why backspace is in an easy place to press. Why are Powerbooks better or different?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 23 May 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I like backspace. Unfortunately, this keyboard gives me the choice of: Delete (=backspace) or Del |x=> (=delete).
