mark s (mark s), Friday, 23 May 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i doubt i've ever had to buy more than six-seven drinks at a time

mark s (mark s), Friday, 23 May 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Most number of drinks - I think thirteen, it was in a Sam Smiths' though so not too expensive.

Most expensive - sixty quid for five drinks.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 23 May 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought 8 shots of tequila plus about 4 beers one time, but the beers were also for the tequila drinkers so technically I guess the round was only 8.

Ha ha Tom I hope you tipped well.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Largest round: 26 people.

I was broke a year...

luna (luna.c), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Famous last words: Nah, it's cool, we'll put it on my credit card - go ahead, order what you want...

luna (luna.c), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm, the largest rounds I've bought have also been in conjunction with a meal, so I don't know how to divide it out. Last weekend, I bought lunch for myself and 4 people, the total was about $120 with tip (this was the day after my big Preakness win).

hstencil, Friday, 23 May 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

luna's post reminds me that for work last year I paid for a corporate event for "our" incoming MBAs, that cost about $6000. Fortunately I was reimbursed.

Most expensive - sixty quid for five drinks.

What five drinks add up to sixty quid??? Did you have a bottle of champagne each?

robster (robster), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Five very large Long Island Iced Teas at £12 each. This was in 1992 so lord knows what they'd be now. They were very tasty. My friend had just won three grand so I'm not quite sure how I ended up buying the celebratory round.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

After a gig about a month ago I bought a 20-shot round of jaeger. I was like totally handing some of them to random people (mostly girls I thought were cute...okay, ENTIRELY girls I thought were cute), and we had this huge circle of 20 people toasting & tapping shot glasses together and giggling for like a good solid 5 minutes before we finally all downed the shots together. I think that was like 70 bucks; I just gave the bartender 4 20s. When I opened my wallet eventually the next day I was like "what the fuck happened?...oh right".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

My friend Craig bought us all our last round(s) at the company Christmas party this last year. The tab was like $300! Incredible.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

But Nick, Jaeger is baaaaaaaaaaad...

luna (luna.c), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Jaeger? Bad!?! Pshaw! Tis liquid courage mind candy of the GODS I tells ya!

...although it can be a little dangerous.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I bought a eleven person round at a FAP once. It rocked in at just over twenty quid due a few waters in the mix.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Jaeger Night + Aimee + 10 shots of Jaeger = the sickest I have ever been. I can't even stand to smell it anymore.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

12 people at this bar in worcester. total cost $24. sometimes I love this place.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

although at the end of my cruise I went on two years ago my bar tab for the week was $785.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm barely ever able to get anything other than small rounds in because I'm never as rich as any of my friends who get this thing called a salary. However, I compensate for this by being the type of person who will give a friend my last £10 if need be.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

3 or 4.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 23 May 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

40 euro or so maybe

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 23 May 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh great, mark s, you know it's not that many. Why not just come out and ask me how few friends I have?

< /defensive >

felicity (felicity), Friday, 23 May 2003 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

{forewarning: this is not about me!)

my friend plays a lot of golf and unremarkably so, is a decent player. he eagled a par 3 and as customary was obligated to purchase a round for the entire clubhouse. it was several hundred dollars, i think in the $3-400 range.

i like that custom (and not because golfers tend to be wealthy but more annoyingly, smug and wealthy).

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 23 May 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

If you eagle a par 3 that's a hole in one, surely?

My biggest would be somewhere from 12 to 15, I think. Once you get to that, unless everyone is at the bar, it turns into writing it on bits of paper and borrowing trays. I feel good buying big rounds, but I am not so well off that I can do it often.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 23 May 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 23 May 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

12 B52, a glass of red wine and 4 pints of Clancys. Was about 60 bucks. The B52s were by demanded from one of my profs who was keeping up with the rest of us students who had just written our last exams.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 23 May 2003 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

During a cash flush time, 6 cases of beer and half a dozen pizzas.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 25 May 2003 02:24 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not the largest round, obv, but the gin and tonic I bought for the equivalent of £8.50 in Cannes counts as the one I was most disgusted with.

Mark C (Mark C), Sunday, 25 May 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I once bought a round for 25 people on a company credit card, just because I could.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 25 May 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought 40 shots of vodka in a hotel bar in Moscow. For 20 people, I hasten to add.

Zora (Zora), Sunday, 25 May 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

most unfeasibly expensive "round" i ever had any truck with: the Paramount Hotel in NYC where one (1) six-pack of Budweiser bottles and one (1) order of freedom fries delivered via room service cost..... 80 dollars

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 26 May 2003 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Clearly in such circumstances we abandoned the "round" system entirely and each paid our way toward our correct apportionment. Asking each person to front an $80 six pack would have been a mite unreasonable.
