The story is horrible news, the headline is so evilly cruelly funny

I'm going to hell for even cracking a smile.

If God is just, whoever wrote that headline will one day rotate over a roaring fire on Satan's rotisserie stick. I mean, come on. "African Tribe Reports Cannibal Acts to U.N." .... there are any number of ways that headline could have been written so that it reflected the gravity and horror of the situation instead of sounding silly and glib.

(I kind of snickered when I read it too. But I blame the headline writer. Seriously. The BBC should be ashamed.)

If you work for the BBC world service writing headlines you've probably heard and read of so many horrible terrible things that pygmy cannibalization is just another story. I don't blame the editor. 'S some funny shit.

I mean after spending enough time researching Liberia and the Congo and the things that are going on there, the only thing I can feel anymore about the whole issue is uneasy humor. There's nothing to be done, the warlords just keep coming back again and again - the whole thing is just a hopeless mess! I'm sorry, but in my case it's either laugh it off and make jokes about how cool Charles Taylor is or get gloomy and depressed. I can't see how either affects the situation at all, so I choose to laugh.

When I looked the headline was, "Pygmies plead not to be eaten". It's not that funny. Has it been changed? What's the joke?

i found it a funny headline. the article itself is of course deeply distressing.

smirking at the headline was almost a knee-jerk response - you're instantly repulsed and amazed both by the story and the gall of the headline writer...its like bashing your funny bone emotionally

TOday I saw on NBC news about torture methods used by Hussien, you know, how great it is that we conquered him. WHat about fuckin' COngo. Jesus Christ, they fucking eat pygmies. NO oil there though. Screw 'em.
