What's the last thing you bought on Ebay that you got a killer deal on?

Or anywhere else, I guess. I'm going to scour the place and bide my time until I can find a decent flat LCD monitor thing for, oh, under $140 or so. I think if I'm just patient about it I shouldn't have a problem.
Yeah but also I got these cool shoes for like $12 and they're worth about five times that.
It's so cool when that happens, right?

Dan I., Saturday, 24 May 2003 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

A 3 CD Loretta Lynn box set for about $7. Set me back £9 including postage.

Before that I got one of the excellent David Toop compilations, 'Techno for Droids', for a couple of quid.

Any bargains are of course completely balanced out by stuff I paid over the odds for but had to have.

James Ball (James Ball), Monday, 26 May 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i got this really cute paul smith tie for $1.50

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 26 May 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I got ahold of a Grandmasta Flash box set for about 12 Euros; unfortunately, the shipping and wire transfer chargest brought it up to about $50 Cdn. Still, not bad since it's out of print, I think.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 26 May 2003 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I just won a Korg DW-8000 keyboard for like $160, which isn't a killer deal, but it's less than half what they're asking for one at my local used music store.

NA. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the best deal I've gotten was when I scored a Roland JX-3P (with that shweet little PG-200 knobby interface unit) and a SP-202 Dr. Sample for $150.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate when you get a "deal" on something and suddenly the seller asks some absurd amount for shipping. I won a series of books for $20 and the seller emailed me to let me know that the shipping would be $80. WTF?! I had to back out.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Never bid on anything without first confirming the shipping cost with the seller. I hate sellers who don't state shipping costs upfront.

David (David), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

David is OTM.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

David is otm -- I won't bid on anything unless the shipping cost is listed. Otherwise I have heard of sellers charging huges fees for shipping to bring the item up to the price they expected to sell it for if the auction had a low final bid.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Known as the "Columbia House" tactic.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

$20 (+$8 shipping--a little outrageous, but..) for a 128mb compact flash card for my digital camera..

also three books for $14 (including shipping) from half.com the other day.. all of which turned out to be great.

miriam (serrano), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I got Let no one live rent free in your mind by Nicollette for 50p a few weeks ago (why didn't she do a follow up?), but best ever was Suburban Light by the Clientele for the princely sum of 15p. Probably the best 15p I've spent too.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought a huge lot of indie/punk 7"s by bands I've never heard of, for almost nothing, a couple of years ago. Still haven't listened to any of them but will make for an good rainy afternoon some day.

Aaron A., Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Dr.C (Dr.C), Thursday, 2 February 2006 10:05 (twenty years ago)

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 2 February 2006 10:10 (twenty years ago)

I got a £300 multigym for £140.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 2 February 2006 10:29 (twenty years ago)

I got the 7" singles of 'love action', 'sound of the crowd', 'open your heart', 'mirror man' and 'the lebanon' for £1.99. A snip!

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 2 February 2006 11:14 (twenty years ago)

that sounds quite good, vicky - i paid £20 on ebay for an iskin for my new ipod (although it did arrive the next day).

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 2 February 2006 12:22 (twenty years ago)

External hard drive enclosure - $0.99. Shipping - $19.90. (Still cheaper than at the store.)

25 cents for a rare James Brown LP.

Douglas (Douglas), Thursday, 2 February 2006 18:03 (twenty years ago)

Awesome Gretsch Snare Drum for $150 plus maybe 15 shipping -- it had a non-original throw-off on it which made it not a collector's item, so I got a great sounding snare for much less than they usually cost.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Friday, 3 February 2006 04:07 (twenty years ago)

My nice (new!) CD boombox + radio arrived today yay! £7, it is pretty.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 3 February 2006 10:08 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
Got a 44 DVD box set featuring the complete works of Woody Allen, from 'What's new Pussycat' up to 'Scoop' for £49 including shipping. Was a little uncertain as it was from a Chinese seller but the transfer quality is excellent and they're all in English too.

Billy Dods, Friday, 20 April 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

Wow

I got a 11 DVD Shunji Iwai boxset for about $10.

admrl, Friday, 20 April 2007 19:29 (eighteen years ago)

The Amps - Tipp City CD single, 99p

ExtensionsOff, Saturday, 21 April 2007 11:26 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, I tried to sell that Amps single for 99p a couple of years ago. Maybe I succeeded and maybe you were the person that bought it.

This is a question Pam could answer better than me (right now she's driving back from Berkshire to pick up some garden chairs for about 25% of retail price) as her life is littered with amazin' eBay scores.

Recently, I've been buying the sort of camera-geek gear that only seems to exist on eBay - adaptor rings for a fiver (though you can get them for a quid), extension tube sets for £2.50. Yr proper branded stuff is orders of magnitude more expensive than that (but better obviously).

Curious to know what make Greig's £3.50 28mm lens was...

[i]Hey, I tried to sell that Amps single for 99p a couple of years ago. Maybe I succeeded and maybe you were the person that bought it.[/]

Not unless your name is Sara and you live in Hampshire.

That was 2 weeks ago, but back in January I obtained:

PowerMac G5 1.6Ghz, 2GB RAM, 150GB HD, Tiger + Quark 6.5 Passport, CS2 Premium, Macromedia Studio 8, Director MX, Coldfusion MX, After Effects 6, Virtual PC 7, Office 2004, Toast 7 Titanium and more + all the installers for the above as .dmg files c/w lists of serials + over 3000 mp3s

£500

'tis lovely

ExtensionsOff, Sunday, 22 April 2007 12:36 (eighteen years ago)

What are the mp3s like?

Mark C, Sunday, 22 April 2007 12:39 (eighteen years ago)

I was congratulating myself on having got a D.L. & Co candle for only £26 when it occurred to me that I'd just spent £26 on a candle.

Nicholas Passant, Sunday, 22 April 2007 13:53 (eighteen years ago)

What are the mp3s like?

Way more mainstream than my usual fare and includes a fair bit of rubbish like Keane and Toploader, but a lot of quality besides, mainly full albums and best ofs.

For instance: The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead; Stones - Forty Licks; Thom Yorke - The Eraser; The Jam - Very Best Of; Pogues - Very Best Of; The Verve - Urban Hymns, A Storm In Heaven & A Northern Soul; The Cure - Greatest Hits; The Byrds - The Very Best Of; The Beatles - Abbey Road, Beatles For Sale, 1, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band & Let It Be; The Definitive Simon & Garfunkel; R.E.M. - Up, Out Of Time, Murmur, Monster, Life's Rich Pageant [UK Bonus Edition], Green, Eponymous, Document [UK Bonus Edition], Automatic For The People; Pulp - This Is Hardcore; Primal Scream - Screamadelica; 6 Oasis albums; Neil Young - Harvest; Paul Weller - Heavy Soul, Stanley Road & Live Wood; Outkast - Stankonia & The Love Below; Eminem - The Eminem Show & Encore; Elvis Presley - The 50 Greatest Hits & Always On My Mind; Dr. Dre - 2001; David Bowie - Best Of David Bowie 1969-1974 & Aladdin Sane; Cream & Disraeli Gears; Brian Wilson - Imagination; Bob Dylan - The Best Of Bob Dylan I, Time Out Of Mind, Blonde On Blonde. Bob Dylan At Budokan, MTV Unplugged & Highway 61 Revisited; Blur - Parklife, The Best Of & 13; Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet; Ash - 1977 & Free All Angels; ABBA Gold; 50 Cent - The Massacre; 2Pac - Loyal To The Game.

and so on…

As I say, there's little on there that I'd deliberately go out and buy, but a hell of a lot that I'm very happy to have.

ExtensionsOff, Sunday, 22 April 2007 14:18 (eighteen years ago)

two months pass...

Just won two tickets to Be Good Tanyas next week in Brighton: £5.50 for the pair with face value being £17.50 each.

For me this is an awesome deal as I was prepared to go way above face value. For that reason I am a little concerned that the person might not honour the deal. should I be?

Uptoeleven, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:05 (eighteen years ago)

I don't use ebay very often.

Uptoeleven, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:05 (eighteen years ago)

brass elk head mounted on a piece of plywood. i removed it from the plywood and spray painted it green. it was like $2.

iiiijjjj, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:07 (eighteen years ago)

i don't like relying on standard post either, is there any way i can pay extra and get the dude to send it rceorded delviery?

Uptoeleven, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:10 (eighteen years ago)

Why don't you ask him that?

Dr.C, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:13 (eighteen years ago)

Distrust/paranoia. I don't want him to suddenly go: "Ah ha, this person ahs clearly severely underpaid", not send em and then try and muscle me for a bit more. like i said, i really don't know about this kinda thing.

Uptoeleven, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:16 (eighteen years ago)

They can't muscle you for a bit more. The deal's done. They probably got the tickets for nowt anyway.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:28 (eighteen years ago)

Histoire de Melody Nelson for £21! Get in! (prob not a bargain really, but it went for £160 the previous week, so not bad either)

The Wayward Johnny B, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:38 (eighteen years ago)

Police are trying to trace the owner of 65,400 euros (£44,000) mistakenly sent to a 16-year-old boy who bought a Playstation Two for £95 on eBay.

The Wayward Johnny B, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 12:52 (eighteen years ago)

He'll need that if he wants to upgrade to PS3.
