This is a good opportunity to commemorate the late Ted Joans (he died last week). An African-American poet who ran with the Beats in NYC in the '50s and later lived in Paris for decades, Joans started Rent-a-Beatnik circa 1958. Don't know how it fared, but he got reams of publicity from it.
