if high school is anything like i remember it (and I went to school in Oregon), then you are probably right -- even moreso now if they are teaching to tests.

I would not classify what they do at my school teaching!

the state of public education in America is frightening. Unless someone really wants to learn anything, they are fucked. I was lucky, I think.

One of the most depressing things about politics in the US and UK is the supposed unelectability of anyone who goes into a campaign intending to raise taxes, no matter how necessary whatever they're vowing to spend the dosh on.

So a relatively liberal state is reduced to cutting the length of school terms because the electorate is too selfish to pay properly for their own kids' education. Crazy.

(And we're not much better over here.)

My school is competent (for the most part)

How is this possible? Didn't we fairly recently have a president whose handlers tried to sell him to the press as "the education president"?

I am a senior in my last month of high school. Let me out now. LET ME OUT LAST MONTH.

aside from that...that's sad. "ooh, federal tax cut! let's pretend state and local taxes don't exist and it'll all be peachy...aw, shit."

Where in Oregon are you, Blanca?

Just think, with that time away from school, you can do all sorts of independent learning projects! You know, like smoking out!
