DOES YOUR OWN BEHAVIOR SHOCK YOU?

Well, does it?

Pinche Pendejo, Sunday, 25 May 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't drink that much anymore.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 25 May 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

This makes me think of those ads in newpapers that say 'ASHAMED BY YOUR MISTAKES IN ENGLISH?'

No, I don't think I've ever been shocked by my own behaviour, though. Isn't that kind of impossible, like tickling oneself?

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 25 May 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't drink that much anymore

Neither do I. I don't smoke anymore, either. There was a time when I thought I would die a smoker. I guess the price of cigarettes just got to imposing on a codo (cheapskate) like myself.

Viva la Raza!

Pinche Pendejo, Sunday, 25 May 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

N, I can tickle myself, and get that extreme and uncontrollable physical twitching. It's no fun, though.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 May 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

How peculiar.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 25 May 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I have particularly sensitive spots round the sides of my stomach. I can tickle my feet a bit too. My ex-wife had very ticklish feet, and she had to be really careful when doing anything involving touching her feet, to avoid tickling herself. Are you sure this inability is a recognised phenomenon?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 May 2003 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I am one of those that cannot tickle myself successfully.

Pinche Pendejo, Sunday, 25 May 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you sure this inability is a recognised phenomenon?

Yes. I can't remember the neurological details though. I mean yeah, I can stroke my feet or inner arm gently in a way that's kind of ticklish, but I can't grab my sides and provoke any reaction. If someone else is doing that then I'm rolling all over the place, begging for mercy. That's the kind of tickling I mean.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 25 May 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Why can't you tickle yourself?

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 25 May 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It used to.

Sean (Sean), Sunday, 25 May 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

This board has hit rock bottom.

Nicole (Nicole), Sunday, 25 May 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate to disagree with my colleagues (they cite UCL, where I work) but I think the distinction between the way it feels when I do it and the way it feels when someone else does it is pretty false. And their reasoning makes little sense - why do we need a defence mechanism against small insects? If it's about panic, why the laughter? Might this be a socially acceptable mask for panic? If so, isn't that an explanation of why you don't laugh when you do it to yourself, because there is no need to hide the fact that the other person has panicked you? How does the difference of the absence of surprise translate to any genuine physical difference?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 May 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe the Nature article they link to explains it better. Regardlesss of the science though, the point remains that you are unusual in being able to tickle yourself, Martin.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 25 May 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I accept unusual: we started upthread with it being impossible. It isn't.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 May 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm shocked by the two of your behavior right now, that's more than enough discussion of tickling oneself.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 25 May 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope, I'm usually not ever shocked by myself - sometimes a little surprised, and occasionally I wish for a rewind/delete function, but shocked? Nah.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 25 May 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

N and I are flirting, basically. I look forward to our next meeting...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you going to ticklefight?

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

And then they all homo up

oops (Oops), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I do hope so.

(I should make clear that I'm joking, so as not to give N nightmares.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

If you ticklefight, you have to dress in skimpy lingerie and do each other's hair, too, you know. It's the rule.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

What about the nail polish and facials?

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course. I just didn't want to hit them with it all at once.

Also, crank-calling boys.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

They should crank-call the Pinefox!

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

and facials?

*paging Dan*

oops (Oops), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

It's like Dan is the Supreme Lord on High of All That Is, or Could Be Misconstrued to Be Nasty, and when he can't be here, he's got his minions working overtime.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Dammit, I want minions.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

at your beck and call, m'lady.
wait, now you only have minion.

oops, luna's minion (Oops), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll wait. I need minions or this taking over the world thing will never get out of its planning stage.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope I haven't said too much.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I always wear skimpy lingerie, of course. But I don't have so much hair that there is anything that can be done with it. Shave what little is left off is about the only option.

Obviously I'm always up for a facial.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 May 2003 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

It seems like it'd take so much time to do up N.'s flowing locks that it really wouldn't matter? Last I saw a picture of him, he had like 4 hour hair!

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 25 May 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, his hair does offer more opportunities than mine, as almost everyone's does.

Can we have pillow fights too?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 May 2003 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

It's de rigueur.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 25 May 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Hang on, hang on, this thread was started by someone using the name 'PINCHE PENDEJO'???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? My new favorite poster!

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 25 May 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess my own behaviour does shock me, in that rather that actively doing shocking things I rather avoid doing reasonable things, reflect on my behaviour, and realize that I'm SO FUCKED. My penchant for just letting things go is quite disturbing.

Bryan (Bryan), Sunday, 25 May 2003 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Errant functionalism. No. I am never ashamed; merely amused. Witness last night and my "no; I've got a johnny on" comment. To my brother.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 25 May 2003 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

'PINCHE PENDEJO'???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? My new favorite poster!

Orale mamacita!

Pinche Pendejo (Pinche Pendejo), Sunday, 25 May 2003 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes.

Millar (Millar), Sunday, 25 May 2003 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

If you ticklefight, you have to dress in skimpy lingerie and do each other's hair, too, you know. It's the rule.

But first we go shopping for pink bows!

Christine "Green Leafy Dragon" Indigo (cindigo), Sunday, 25 May 2003 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I am sorry for making this thread go wrong.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 26 May 2003 01:57 (twenty-two years ago)

no it more just sort of nauseates me

duane, Monday, 26 May 2003 03:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I missed how it went wrong, N - how do you mean?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 26 May 2003 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)
