When was the last time you slow-danced?

slutsky (slutsky), Sunday, 25 May 2003 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

inspired by the party we had last night

slutsky (slutsky), Sunday, 25 May 2003 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

A few months ago. I can't wait to do it again sometime. In spite of my big feet I'm an ok dancer.

Bryan (Bryan), Sunday, 25 May 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh god, I don't even remember. Obviously I need to again, and soon.

hstencil, Sunday, 25 May 2003 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

*cries*

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 25 May 2003 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Yesterday, in a living room, to Flock of Seagulls.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 26 May 2003 02:19 (twenty-two years ago)

If I stop to actually consider this, I may cry (especially because Van Morrison's I'll Be Your Lover, Too is on) - so I'll only say it's been awhile.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 26 May 2003 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

My cousin's wedding, four or so years ago; also the only time I've danced, period. It's just not something I do. I have promised to make an exception for my best friend's wedding (which will be Julia Roberts-free).

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 26 May 2003 02:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I danced with someone in my lliving room a few weeks ago, but it wasn't really slow-dancing, and being me it was over pretty quickly. I'm 27 and still haven't learned to dance. Tristesse.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 26 May 2003 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I would consider it against my principles. Until im too old to fast dance, is that the antonym ha ha. ( reminds me of a workmate asking if i like "nightclub music" now i can say 'sure! I fast dance to it')

jeskam, Monday, 26 May 2003 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

jeez, I didn't mean to make everyone sad.

slutsky (slutsky), Monday, 26 May 2003 05:52 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread was meant as a CELEBRATION of slow dancing!

slutsky (slutsky), Monday, 26 May 2003 05:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean, it was meant to be a celebration of slow dancing. So let's celebrate.

slutsky (slutsky), Monday, 26 May 2003 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Last year, for the first time in years, with a dear friend (female) (married) at a mutual friend's wedding reception, to U2's wonderful, brooding slow-builder 'All I Want Is You'. It still felt magical.

Fred Nerk, Monday, 26 May 2003 07:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Yesterday, to Danger High Voltage! It eventually turned into interpretive dancing of that song.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 26 May 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

ha, I kind of did an interpretative dance to "Freedom" on Saturday.

slutsky (slutsky), Monday, 26 May 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Quite a while ago, slow dancing to country music in some little bar in Kentucky.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Monday, 26 May 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

My boyfriend don't dance = My slow dancing days are over. Boo hoo.

kirsten (kirsten), Monday, 26 May 2003 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

You should so make him dance. Not with electrodes or anything, just gentle encouragement.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 26 May 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

About a year ago at a wedding... I'm big on the idea of reintroducing the slow dance at the end of clubs... would be fun I've always thought

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 26 May 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Gentle encouragement doesn't work, batting my eyelashes doesn't work. Even waiting til he's drunk then tugging on his arms doesn't work! I'm afraid it's a lost cause.

kirsten (kirsten), Monday, 26 May 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Best slow dance song of all time: Monochrome by The Sundays.
Funniest slow dance song of all time: Lady In Red by Chris DeBurgh.
Worst slow dance song of all time: Stairway to Heaven. Why? Because of the fast part. This is usually the last song at a school dance, and typically at this point you don't care what they play so long as you're dancing with someone.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 26 May 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

(all IMO, of course!)

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 26 May 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

With all due respect, saying Stairway is the worst slow dance song of all time is a gross exaggeration. Clearly grindcore and gabba techno trump the Zep at every turn in this category. For example: Regurgitation of Giblets by Carcass or No Woman Allowed by Sperminator = kinda mood-killers. ;-)

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 26 May 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Funniest slow dance song of all time: Lady In Red by Chris DeBurgh.

Absolutely. I have made fun of this song since it came out, and am perplexed by people who find it romantic.

Now I have it in my head. hahahaugggghhh...

JuliaA (j_bdules), Monday, 26 May 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

so do i. get it out!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 26 May 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a disgraceful record, but perhaps not quite as bad as The Power Of Love by Jennifer Rush

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 26 May 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

"...cheek to cheek..."

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 26 May 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

The following is true:

When I was in eighth grade, I had a massive crush on a girl in my algebra class. She was pretty, smart, funny, and all-around fantastic. I remember in particular a sparkly red sweater she used to wear because it was like she was wearing her sunny personality. I really wanted to ask her to go out with me but I was very nervous and afraid of rejection (I'd been shot down before by other girls). One Friday I decided that I would talk to her that Monday in algebra and see if she would be interested in hanging out the following weekend.

That Saturday she died in a car accident.

"The Lady In Red" is a mawkish, cloying, overly-sentimental song that happens to remind me of one of my first crushes and, more importantly, a wonderful person who died far too young. So yeah, there are reasons why someone would romanticize a song like "The Lady In Red".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 26 May 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

that's so sad. thank you for sharing your sad story.

slutsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

By the way, the best slow-dance song is "November Rain."

slutsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 01:13 (twenty-two years ago)

a couple of weekends ago, at FunQ, with dirty dancing matthew, oceania, and nicky. matthew bit me, the little ratbag.

di smith (lucylurex), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I like slowdancing, but slowdancing to saxophones really
ruins the spirit.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

you obviously have never slowdanced to "careless whisper" then. come to think of it, neither have i.

di smith (lucylurex), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 03:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I have. It kinda made me feel wrong.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 03:12 (twenty-two years ago)

When was the last time you slow-danced?

Are you asking us out?

Christine "Green Leafy Dragon" Indigo (cindigo), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 03:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm just sayin'.

slutsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 03:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think I've ever slow danced. This startles me somewhat (dodgy made-to-dance-with-stinky-boys school stuff does not count).

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 03:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I fear my fast dancing days are numbered, but I imagine I'd be happy to creak around the dance floor with the woman I love, perhaps to "Need your love so bad" by Fleetwood Mac.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 06:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you injured, Mark?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Around Christmas time with my last girlfriend.

of course not, darlin'

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 10:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Then I'm your gal, "let's cha cha"!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh! maybe there could be slow dancing at your FAP! slow dancing is possibly the only thing i miss about high school.

(not true, i also miss starting every day with anderson cooper. allowing me to daydream about slow dancing with him. at prom. i'll stop now)

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Lady, if you want to slow dance, who are we to stop you!! ;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I had some sexy slow dancing times over valentines day. We received a cd from the sister in law and her boyfriend who is from brazil. He hooked us up with some of his favorite brazilian music in return for a few copies of things he heard of mine that i copied for him. Godamn, this stuff is sexy. Especially Marisa Monte.....mmm.

Chris V (Chris V), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I've decided that my wife and I should take some salsa lessons.

Chris V (Chris V), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes! I'm shocked that I had no idea about this forthcoming event!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Mid-October of last year on the back porch of a house party around 2 am. Slow dancing is severely underrated.

I was actually talking about this with some friends the other day. I had no idea there were so many young ladies recovering from slow dance trauma that occured in middle school. For many, their first experience with an erection was in the middle of a basketball court. Surrounded by over a hundred of their peers in what looked like a sea of bangs. A Boyz 2 Men slow jam blasting over the PA, and a young suitor firmly pressing his newly discovered manhood against her like he was trying to compact a wound.

Please note that we had no idea what we were doing at the time. I'm sure that you ladies were equally confused, otherwise I would have been assaulted by many more women than have been historically recorded. To any young lady who's been startled to find themselves on the business end of my adolescent erection, my sincerest apologies..

Dale the Titled (cprek), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

it doesn't look nearly as good as the original, but maybe it'll start a worldwide trend for slow dancing, which would be great.

of course, that won't work if only like 4 people see it, which might happen.

(xpost-- even more traumatic when you're 5'11 in middle school. guys, think about how tall you were when you were 12-14 years old. imagine trying to dance with someone that is as tall as me. it so just didn't work. i still get depressed listening to madonna's 'crazy for you'. i think i'll go cry now. i've remembered the dark side of the slow dance)

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry!
