Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Make me.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

There are many lovely ILXors there.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

It's true, I do like Toronto, but I hardly ever go there.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not a flaming cess pool of human misery. They extinguished the fire in '97.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

THERE'S A TOWER IN TORONTO THAT CONTROLS PEOPLE'S MINDS!!!
I liked the Victory quite a bit. Yeah, the ILxors are ok!

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a tower here that CONTROLS PEOPLE'S MINDS!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Goddammit!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

"Toronto" sounds a bit like "Totoro".

Sommermute (Wintermute), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I almost went there once on New Year's Eve but we decided not to after getting all the way to Niagra Falls in time for midnight. The fireworks in Toronto were nice. But it was too damned cold and I was dressed inappropriately.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

there are some really sexy ILXORS there.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

ts: toronto vs. montreal, har har har

slutsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

To ronto or not To ronto?

THAT is the question.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends. Ron to where?

Sommermute (Wintermute), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

RIP

slutsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I love Toronto and would actually like to move there. Kensington Market has a fab shop called Cheese Magic (which I love as it's funny and I like cheese a lot, too). Cosmos records is a good shop for rare Brazilian music and the film festival is really good, too.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

It's got SARS.

hstencil, Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

that's hilarious, fuckwad

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Look on the bright side, at least it's keeping you on the front pages.

hstencil, Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Charming.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Forgive me but I don't believe SARS falls within even the loosest definition of "nice"

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I got my pink Puma jacket there for two dollars.

I had my first experience of meeting Internet friends in real life there. We went to the Pickle Barrel.

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

what's your problem, hstencil?

27 people died here already, people I know are being shunned when they travel from here, people are scared to come here, people are getting laid of at hotels and restaurants...

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

laid off, I mean

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I also really like play de record for buying dancehall and soca rcords and the guys there are very pleasant, too

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, it was a joke. Obviously it's not funny. I apologize.

hstencil, Tuesday, 27 May 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

ah, don't worry about it - all we do is make jokes about it here anyway... but it just seems different when somebody from outside makes jokes.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Toronto is lovely! I'd like to visit again some time this summer, but getting the time off to do so will probably be an issy-you.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, sorry Fritz. We've got (very unpublicized) SARS cases in NYC, no fatalities as of yet though. I've always wanted to go to Toronto, but if I went now I'd prolly get beat up by you and Crudders for that bad joke. Oh well.

Actually, I saw the Blue Jays pound the Yankees on Sunday, so that's one positive thing I can say about Toronto. Your baseball team is kicking mucho ass right now.

hstencil, Tuesday, 27 May 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

The idea of me beating someone up is very amusing. I don't know how I'd manage it. I'm sure Fritz would kick your ass though; No, I haven't met him, but you can tell but the way he types that he's got some fuckin' pipes on him.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

You may not be threatening presently, but, wait 'til you start Nautilus.

hstencil, Tuesday, 27 May 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought DJ Griz was in charge of Toronto beat-downs.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Kid Koala's from Toronto, right? If so, there ya go!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

he's from montreal

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah that's how rumours get started nickalicious!

slutsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

But the Toronto/Montreal music scene cross over is very much alive with Do Make Say Think and Lullabye Arkestra.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Do Make are probably my fave TO band. So yeah.

slutsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Sadly they are now split between our two fair cities.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

The Arkestra used to live here for a while, no?

slutsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

They are also split between our cities, mostly by virtue of having so many shared members.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

that's right.

slutsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

It is near Buffalo.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a really lovely red jumper from Toronto.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

It's really clean, well-organized, and beautiful, esp for its size. Cultural life, including things on the margins, is thriving much more than I expected. The improv and modern classical scenes are better in some regards than in Montreal - way more and some higher quality venues, less cliquey, actually seems like more is going on. It's a pretty good place to buy shoes.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

It's home.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

It is near Buffalo. that's not a nice thing.

and 'tis my favourite home.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I’ll probably be staying there while I attend this: http://www.hamilton2003.com/

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

one good thing about toronto is: me! i live there! but seriously, it's a really beautiful (esp in summer), clean and (relatively) safe city.

it's also got some really nice buildings.

sand.y, Wednesday, 28 May 2003 00:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Who says we will take any?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait till you mee the midget with the camera!
I mean how can you refuse a grumpy midget with a bum leg who mutters misogynistic things at you when you don't want to pay him to take a black and white picture you don't even want. He's probably in cohoots with the guy who sells blinking plastic roses.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Zac, that's a really mean way to talk about Sean.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 22:06 (twenty-two years ago)

(ok, ok - so there's an actual little old guy with an antique polaroid camera who accosts you if you sit still too long any place on Queen West. And it's true that he's a temperamental artiste too - if you fuck up the picture by closing your eyes, he'll still want you to pay)

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

And his name is Sean.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to an event that features a KISS tribute band made up of midgets. This seems to relate vaguely, so I'm bringing it up.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be going to Edmonton June 25-July 2. So I'll miss you if you come at that time.

The Kiss tribute band sounds good though.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

You'll be back for the attack by the 5th or 6th Sundar? I'm gonna go up there after the NYC FAP amd I want us to all get together.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 5 June 2003 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

That's so wrong! Why should the black squirrel have to live behind bars?

I felt sorry for it, too.

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Thursday, 5 June 2003 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
So, someone somewhere put together this concert lineup. I want what ever this person was on to come up with this:
Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Flaming Lips, Guess Who, Justin Timberlake, Sam Roberts, Kathleen Edwards and Isley Brothers.

Thats some seriously wacked out shit. Probably within 5 minutes on TTC from my house too.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Sam Roberts...isn't he your butcher?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess the Rolling Stones need some fresh meat.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

*rimshot*

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I always misread this thread as say something nice about toraneko, who's very nice indeed. That's all.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i know have the image of justin timberlake and keith richards fagging up.

thank you.

anthony easton (anthony), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Bryan, which days are you going to be here again? Maybe we should begin the FAP negotiations.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

He might be towing along a couple NYC ilxors. Just FYI. This is not definite.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

negotioations¿ i say our next fap must be somewhere on the queen strip. we've neglected one of the trendiest areas of the t dot. and i want a patio too.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

My current plan is that I will be getting to TO on the evening of the 6th and departing (possibly) sometime on the 9th. Dyson is OTM. I want to hoot and whistle at those hott TO bitches.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i say our next fap must be somewhere on the queen strip. we've neglected one of the trendiest areas of the t dot.

Yo, FUKK trendy. I think in keeping with the whole Trucker Hat discussion that's been going on on the board as of late we should actually do the next FAP at a cheapo trucker bar somewhere on one of the regional highways.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Yo mama.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Be forewarned July the 8th contains:
THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS w/ The Organ. Phoenix. $15
THE GOSSIP w/ The Paybacks, The Sick Lipstick. Lee's Palace. $10

I want to hoot and whistle at those hott TO bitches.

Queen West is great for shows and all but The Rivoli and Horseshoe 'patios' leave a little to be desired in aside from cheap beer. Is Queen West still considered trendy these days? I thought after The Gap, Roots, Le Chateau and HMV moved in that offically became crap and all koolness had transfered up the street to College a few years ago to the combination of Elmo, Ted's Wrecking yard, Rancho Relaxo, Sneaky and assortment of fine Italian cafes.

I'd cheapishly suggest Duke of Argyle just so I can get my Clancy's beer. its south of Queen on John, though King Street West is nice enough to take out of town folk too. But no hott bitches on that patio.
If it be "hott TO bitches" Bryan wants, maybe we could hike up to Yorktown and make him buy a round at the Guess Patio, home to more eating and pill disorders then anywhere else in the city.
hmmm, THE BEACHES! Lion on The Beaches! Its just a street car down from Queen & Yonge (aka The Eaton's Center).

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Yo, FUKK trendy. I think in keeping with the whole Trucker Hat discussion that's been going on on the board as of late we should actually do the next FAP at a cheapo trucker bar somewhere on one of the regional highways.

Fine, I know tons of those, Crows Nest at Jacksons Point, only hour and half out of the city. If your lucky they will still be cleaning up the shards of glass from the night before. Hell screw the regional highway, lets go to Gilleys!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

what about nasa or gorilla monsoon both on queen, have patio n not bitches.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I wuz kidding about the bitches. I can't whistle worth shit. If we can go somewhere not too expensive with good beer I'll be happy, as I'm guessing you all will be as well.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I know not of Nasa I must admit. I also can't remeber how big Gorilla Monsoon's patio is, oh well. I'm not picky though, just choosey.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

they're both extreemly tiny patios. and nasa is, like, the coolest bar evah. but they have not fancy beers – only airline seats and ataris.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, clearly that's where you should go.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

the coolest bar evah. but they have not fancy beers – only airline seats and ataris.

Northside of College east Clinton or so? Done all red and white with red lighting?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

uh no. queen, dude. near the now infamous velvit & across from amatos.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Freaky, it has a twin up on College then with only an airport sign for a name.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey is it the Big Gay Weekend or whatever its called?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Shit must have walked by that place all the time. No mention of a patio though.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

yup, it's the canada pride jazz weekend festival.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

And Jazz festival? Man downtown is going to be a zoo. Maybe i should be glad Im stuck in Scarborough this weekend.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Zac, what was that place on Queen called that had the really good Martinis and where that one girl was really drunk?

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh gawd. Nasa? When I lived in Toranna (granted, a few years back), there was a sandwich board outside of Nasa that read "For People who UNDERSTAND House Music." That was enough to make me NEVER EVER want to go there. Then again, I moved to Mtl--the homebase of bad house music. What am I doing to myself!!

cybele (cybele), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

What Toronto needs is one of those clubs downtown to play dub. Or maybe my neighbourhood is just starting to seep into me a bit too much.

Place on Queen with those wonderful Martinis was Modesto, right smack dab inbetween Bovine, VU and this Nasa place. Im not sure what tiny street corner it was though.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Klien Says " Americans badly need Canadian beef ", this has nothing to do with the thread but I just had to post it.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

That is such a dirty comment in my mind that I don't even know what to say.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

the gypsy co-op plays some dub (also on queen), i think on wednesdays. i may actually go tonite.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

the gypsy co-op plays some dub (also on queen), i think on wednesdays. i may actually go tonite.

I've heard good things about that place from some of my east coast transplant friends.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Just to get back to an earlier exchange on this thread.
I went to the Duke of Argyle while attending NXNE.
I had a steak sandwich and a Strongbow cider.
Yowza.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

yowza good¿
see, you do need canadian beef.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Clancey's Amber ale is the jewel of that place. Makes me miss the old Alcool NB stores.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...
This will probably not help Toronto's raging inferiorty complex

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 06:13 (nineteen years ago)

LOL

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

TO's really gotta let the "world-class" thing go

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

It's a great city, but so much of what makes it great is subtle, and takes some time to discover. Toronto lacks the "Old World" charm of Quebec, and Montreal, and isn't blessed with abundant natural beauty like Vancouver. In spite of that however, she rocks, and anyone who lives there shouldn't need a list to tell them that. I could also mention Hamilton, Ontario and Nagoya, Japan as two other places I've lived in that are pretty great, but are in no danger of ever making anyone's list of "World Class" cities.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 13:12 (nineteen years ago)
