oops (Oops), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

It does.

I haven't got it, though.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends. Completely different from N - S (just like the East Coast! wow!). But anyone who argues that there is no California accent is a liar (as I recently heard at work).

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

but you say 'dude' all the time so you're halfway there

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I type 'dude' all the time - so do you. That negates THAT.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

You go girl!

ricki lake audience member (Oops), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh bite me.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 03:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh bite yourself.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 03:39 (twenty-two years ago)

You'd like that, wouldn't you?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 03:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard that response before you even posted it, fule.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah whateverrrrr

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 03:44 (twenty-two years ago)

wasn't talking to you, pal

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 03:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Can it Rusty, your story's boring.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 03:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I know that, bitch, I gots my girl's back.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 03:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Y'all are some touchy hos, all ready to pounce on a brother and shit.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 03:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Chicks before dicks...

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:03 (twenty-two years ago)

You started it, fool.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:03 (twenty-two years ago)

And I'm gonna finish it! *massive dual bitchslap*

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:09 (twenty-two years ago)

The western states (Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, and west) all probably have the most neutral accent... but even then, I think there are slight redneck/Canadian influctions. (is that a word?) California is an exception, and certainly has an accent of its own.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:11 (twenty-two years ago)

then again, "neutral" is all relative.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I do NOT have an accent.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't say you specifically did! relax!

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I totally have an accent. I make it whatever I want though, so it's all good.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:18 (twenty-two years ago)

nowadays you sound like a jersey girl!

Tad (llamasfur), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw no, I know you didn't - just in general. I probably do.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I've found that Canadian, Texan, and Jersey accents are very addictive.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I DO NOT SOUND LIKE A JERSEY GIRL YOU BASTARD!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

California is an exception, and certainly has an accent of its own.

There's an LA accent that seems somewhat influenced by all the transplanted New York Jew studio-mogul types -- a cross between that and the standard Valley Girl voice.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I was talking more the beach city surfer accent... all those "right on"'s and "rad"'s.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, there are, like, 150 definitions for dude depending on tone, emphasis, inflection etc.

I also use rad, but in an ironic retro way...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

there are like 50,000 different california accents... CA is like the size of new england plus the mid atlantic. i've been told i have one but i've been told a lot of things go figure mmmhmmm

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 06:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to know if I do now. Y'all call me.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 06:26 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm... "y'all" ...

it's funny though, you can be like an hour outside LA and you get a reasonable facsimile of the southern accent in places like bakersfield or some little fastfood+gas towns out hwy 14. but it's more of that west arkansas/oklahoma/shamrock texas hybrid thing that is just completely depressing to listen to.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 06:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It's the 'rural' accent, no?

(I'm hearing David Cross saying: 'What's up? I'm from Bozeman, Montana...What's up I'm from Pine Bluff, Arkansas...etc etc)

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 06:41 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, but like bakersfield is not very rural.

for instance, i hear this accent a lot in (raisan capital of the world) fresno and yet it's the 5th most populous city in CA.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 06:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Mine came from South Carolina, but I have heard it in outlying areas.. it's a little weird. Like Valley girls in Maine.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 06:51 (twenty-two years ago)

But Fresno is an agricultural city, right? Or at least was until very recently?
And does Bakersfield have a lot of truckers? Truckers=rural.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

eight years pass...
