i want to fast for about 2 weeks. some of the research ive done leads me to want to try the "master cleanser" or "lemonade diet." thats where you drink 5 or more glasses a day of this lemonade made with maple syrup and cayanne pepper. have any of you ever done this? have you ever fasted for a good amount of time?

why do you wanna fast?

oops (Oops), Thursday, 29 May 2003 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

If you can fast, why can't you slow?

(sorry...)

I fasted for, uh, 36 hours once. It was kind of fun. But then I got hungry.

I usually fast two days before taking shrooms, drinking only water. Gives the little darlings an extra oomph. But two weeks without eating, that's pretty long. Have you considered doing your own private month of Ramadan? Looks like more fun.

Sounds like a crazy idea for me. (I like to prepare for schrooms with orange juice and mackrel)

Oh god no, I couldn't do this, I always get a headache if I don't eat for long periods of time, usually about an hour!! Good luck tho!

my posse fast quickly cos my posse got velocity.

Fast for more than 48 hours you start losing protein - muscles organs brain etc. NOT A GOOD THING. 2 weeks, you'll be losing bone mass.

If you fast to lose weight then after 2 weeks your metabolism will have dropped so when you do eat you'll put on fat that will look saggy cos of the muscle you've lost.

if you fast to cleanse your kidneys/liver etc, then do it for 24 hours. Also avoid the lemonade - the acetic acid needs to be broken down. Just drink water.

one year passes...
I am fasting today.

I was going to fast anyway, and then some other people wanted to fast specifically because of the inauguration, so they copied me. But my own fast is apolitical. Unless we are talking about the body politic.

so much for that.

At first I thought this thread said "fisting" and then I clicked on it and was utterly disappointed.

one of my vegan books was talking about fasting. it sounded kind of fun and interesting to try but seriously i feel like i've done enough kool-aid drinking this year

thomp, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 01:48 (sixteen years ago)

kool-aid is vegan??

armando white (dyao), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 01:52 (sixteen years ago)

i was going to make some kind of LITERALLY pun but i decided it would be a bad idea and not worth it

thomp, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 02:02 (sixteen years ago)

fasting is really p rad its just dumm 2 eat greasy meat after not having had any meat for 10 days esp when u have a lot of editing and revising to do & dont really want 2 spend half the day feeling like ur gonna barf

f a ole schwarzwelt (Lamp), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 02:11 (sixteen years ago)

One of my friends does this for 10 days straight once a year and I refuse to believe it's even remotely healthy.

Darin, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 02:17 (sixteen years ago)

my friend just told me she is doing this now to 'reset' her eating patterns, drinking only juice for the past 3 days. i was like could you at least eat one meal a day? yeurgh. i'd be unable to concentrate and really afraid of randomly passing out somewhere.

harbl, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 02:27 (sixteen years ago)

i eat one small meal a day basic just tyrna get the minimum necessary calories usually just some rice or pasta + veggies. its not really abt "healthy" ime more "clarity" & feeling good tbh i find im way sharper & able to concentrate during & after

did kinda cheat this time by having some drinks tho :/

I have thought about going on the master cleanse before but fear that it will mess up the natural balance of my body

armando white (dyao), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 02:43 (sixteen years ago)

in junior high my friend shareef would do this every year and every year i made fun of him but was always secretly jealous, kinda like how i dismiss people who do bikram yoga now when in reality i fear them as gods

This seems to have been the most popular thread on ilx for the whole I-am-fasting-to-detoxify-myself topic. I have always thought the subject was kind of creepy, but the whole business of ritualized self-purification has been stuck in human's heads for thousands of years.

Aimless, Tuesday, 26 March 2013 19:37 (thirteen years ago)

thx moved posts to that thread
