Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 29 May 2003 06:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Classic? Dud? Can anybody under 60 appreciate his humor?

oops (Oops), Thursday, 29 May 2003 06:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i can only picture him as a simpsons cartoon. I think that says a lot.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 29 May 2003 06:28 (twenty-two years ago)

He used to box under the name Packy East.

weatheringdaleson (weatheringdaleson), Thursday, 29 May 2003 06:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Did he punch like an Indonesian elephant?

oops (Oops), Thursday, 29 May 2003 06:50 (twenty-two years ago)

This is as opposed to an African elephant? ;)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 29 May 2003 06:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Well done bob!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 May 2003 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I've always loved the "Road" movies ...... the talking camels in the Road to Morocco and the "Sawing the Lady in Half Routine" from the Road to Zanzibar (Bing: "Are you sure you know how to do that?" Bob: "If I don't, one of us is going to go back half-fare"). Classic.

C J (C J), Thursday, 29 May 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Good job not dying!

NA. (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 May 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I love Bob Hope impressions.... Here's mine:

"I gotta tell ya!"

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 29 May 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

The Hope/Crosby movies were F.U.N.

Take 1/2 Groucho and add 1/2 Jack Benny = Bob Hope

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 29 May 2003 12:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Happy Birthday Bob!

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 29 May 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Not just the Road movies - The Cat And The Canary and the Paleface films are well worth your time too.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 29 May 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

too bad he stopped being funny around the time FDR croaked

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 29 May 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I still remember a painful 'college' special in 1984 or so which featured Mr. Hope wandering from campus to campus with various 'special guests' appearing. At UCLA? Taco! At SMU? Bonnie Tyler! (Which contained the World's Worst Joke: Tyler to Hope -- "I was looking for this place called 'smoo' but was having a hard time finding it." ARARAGARARAGAGAH!)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 May 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos is too harsh, Bob 'gottem on the ropes' Hope was funny at least until Ike's second term, and even in the sixties at least the titles of his movies ("Boy Did I Get A Wrong Number!", "Not With My Wife You Don't!", "Call Me Bwana") trump anything in today's multiplexes (pity about the movies themselves). I've always figured his role in 'inventing' modern standup HAS to have been exaggerated though.

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 29 May 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

There was a period of a few months in 2000 where my instinctual response to any question was "Bob Hope." I wish I could explain that more, but I think I'll have to leave it at that.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 29 May 2003 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

E! headline: "Bob Keeps Hope Alive"

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 29 May 2003 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

From another message board:

"Man, that's amazing! 20 years of making America laugh..."

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 29 May 2003 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

heh

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 29 May 2003 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

"60 years of being humored by an increasingly indifferent America!"

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 29 May 2003 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Bob Hope and his wife go out to dinner.

"Madam, what will you have?" he asks the wife.
"I'll take the meatloaf."
"And for the vegetable?"
"He'll just have what I'm having."

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 29 May 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

the first "he" = "the waiter"

whoops

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 29 May 2003 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds like you could need to enroll in prof. hope's joke telling 101 class!

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 29 May 2003 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"hey did you take a bath last night?"
"why, is one missing?"

LAFFS GALORE!

IN YR FACE!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 29 May 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

My seventy-year-old father informs me that he has never known Bob Hope to be funny at all.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Friday, 30 May 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

RJG (RJG), Friday, 30 May 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)
