Shopping lists

Is this a really sad thing to do? Am I just being a compulsive list maker? What should I put on the list i am currently making for a shopping expedition this evening?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 May 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I have the essentials so far :- halloumi, bread, beer & wine!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 May 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

so long as you get everything that's on the list. On the rare occassion that I make a list, I always forget at least one thing on it.

I only tend to make a list when there are things I've forgotten to get in the past few trips, or I'm making something from a recipe.

I take it lack of response=sad to make a shopping list. I will leave this place now!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 May 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I make shopping lists, if I'm getting more than one meals worth of food (which is rare). I used to go out with a woman who always wrote "Chopin Liszt" at the top of hers. Hilarious.

I will carry a little pad with me and make a shopping list as I'm going about stuff; whenever I think of something I need from the store, I write it down. Once the list gets to a certain number of things or it gets to be a good day to go to the market, voila! I have a list to work with.

The thing is, once I've made the list and go to the store, I don't even really need to look at it. I think by simply writing the stuff down, I ingrain it in my memory or something. But if I don't make a list, shopping becomes a struggle, and I always forget something key.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 29 May 2003 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

get asparagus.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 29 May 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I make shopping lists, then feel self-concious using them, so I will have a list in my purse that says "bread, tea, peanut butter, cereal" and a shopping basket that has "york peppermint patties, bananas, Lowenbrau".

Avocadoes
STEAK
A ready meal of some kind

I've seen music stores that sell pre-printed notepads with "Chopin Liszt" at the top. Oh, how my sides didn't ache.

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 29 May 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I never make lists but if that's your tip, Halloumi is a good start. To that I would add advocado, those smoked hickory peanuts, cinammon bagels, some proper bread, humous, bacon, red wine and apple juice.

Alex K (Alex K), Thursday, 29 May 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought cooking chorizo, but I can't decide whether to get pork and potatoes and make a stew, or get salad leaves, as the weather's so nice.

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 29 May 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

snoked hickory peanuts are so yummy, i havent had those for ages!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 May 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 May 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

The staples: ice lollies and chocolate and crisps.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 29 May 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

but not "chocolate crisps," as the idea itself seems vaguely Not Of That Which Should Ever Be. :)

we usually make shopping lists, or else we'd never come out with the stuff we needed/wanted/were actually out of. we'd just sort of end up toddling about with about a zillion varieties of Milka bar, some random italian cookies, and little else. unless those coffee & creme oreos were on sale again, in which case we'd stock up on those and some milk.

(there really are two people i'm referring to when saying "we"; the above paragraph was in no way meant to reference the fictional Janni collective. XD)

janni (janni), Thursday, 29 May 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm all about tacos tonite.

But what kind? Should I buy the Ortega everything in a box or make my own? I've never made tacos from scratch. I'm emotionally exhausted.

Ha! I wish!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 29 May 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I was writing my grocery list at lunch today. One of the regulars at the diner where I eat asked what I was doing, and I told him. He looked at the list and said, "You forgot a gun – to blow your head off! Hahahahahaha!" WTF?

Fivvy (Fivvy), Thursday, 29 May 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Can we say ISSUES? Wow, some people.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 29 May 2003 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

My method: I often make a list as I think of needed things, put it on the fridge so I won't, you know, FORGET it. Then I go shopping and try to mentally visualize the forgotten list on my fridge. I don't recommend my method.

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 29 May 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Usually when I go to the grocery store without a written list I forget something fairly important. Which is not to say that when I do go into the store with a list I don't forget something.

I once heard about a woman who not only prepared grocery lists in advance, but organized them by the store's aisles, so she could make an efficient sweep through the store. Part of me thinks that's sadly anal; part of me thinks that's brilliantly organized.

What I keep telling myself I ought to do is to prepare a list for when I go to book or record stores. When I'm in these places I waste so much time trying to remember "who's that author I keep intending to check out? What's that band that so-and-so recommends? Which of the New Wet Kojak/Morphine/REM CDs do I already have?"
