Alright, what started out as a happy, basketball-fun drunk turned into a pissed-off unpleasant drunk last night. Now I hurt. Ow. And still have a ton of shit to do at school today, then my second job after school, and then probably a show after that.

Tell me how to pick myself up and keep on ticking.

That Girl (thatgirl), Friday, 30 May 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Rub lemon quarters in your armpits.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 30 May 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

basketball-drunk fun??

my advice: two or three cold showers between gigs

kephm, Friday, 30 May 2003 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm working well with 3 cups of coffee right now. I plan to keep up this intake until about 5pm today.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

3 cups of coffee ALL day? stomach lined with steel?...wait, you are a damn replicant.

kephm, Friday, 30 May 2003 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

lemons? armpits?

not helping. . .

That Girl (thatgirl), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I always find that a can of lemonade & a packet of salted crisps works wonders. If not crisps try peanuts as u need the salt. try to eat if u can, it always helps me. sadly tho only sleep can truly get rid!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Ceasers I hear work well. I can't stand them hungover or not.

Black coffee and several glasses of water otherwise.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I have an amazing tolerance for coffee, which I believe is due to the fact that my mom would drink 3 POTS A DAY while pregnant with me. So I need to keep up a constant intake in order for it to take effect.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Flat coke and a blazing shower. Failing that, hit the beer hard.

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Lots of fresh orange juice + exedrin migraine helps. So can coffee, but sometimes if you have too much it can make things worse.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

have a poo and then drink a bloody mary. and eat some chips.

chris (chris), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

marijuana for short-term and to calm stomach; water and Nicole's aforementioned Exedrin for long-term, never fails

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Salt is good. Water, yeah. I cannot stomach coffee. Can't drink or smoke again till after job number two.

Damn I suck.

That Girl (thatgirl), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Orange juice and a croissant will help.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

...and codeine-based painkillers.

cameron, Friday, 30 May 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

coca cola over ice and a percocet

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

puking helps.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

ding ding ding ding ding

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

i can never puke the morning/day after. always before bed with the puking for me.

kephm, Friday, 30 May 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Take a multi-vitamin and drink like a gallon of water every hour.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

that said, i cant remember the last time i was hungover.

kephm, Friday, 30 May 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i used to make myself ill during the evening if i felt myself getting too drunk & then afterwards, i could carry on drinking quite happily. now i'm grown up i tend to throw up unvoluntarily morning & night. damn getting older!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Water is key. Hangovers are for the most part due to dehydration.
Eat some Marmite and next time take an ibuprofen before you go to bed.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Any of your caffein + painkiller combos (excedrin, etc.) with tons of orange juice, or caffeine + painkiller in fizzy tablet form dissolved in a big glass of water w/ an orange juice chaser.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

a big plate of eggs and hash browns (anything greasy really) and a fruit smoothie with all the vitamin/ginseng/bee pollen type extras does the trick for me. Caffeine does help because it dialates the blood vessels in your brain, I think. A hot hot shower is good.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

sleep late. Oh, whoops.

hstencil, Friday, 30 May 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone told me once this theory about greasy food displacing the alcohol in yr bloodstream or something; I'm not sure I entirely believed it or got it, but we were trashed & eating at Waffle House at the time, and who am I to argue with hash browns?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

My boy swears by alka seltzer excess b4 u go to bed & when u get up in the morning. I have to say tho, first thing in the morning it makes me throw up! :-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Whenever not feeling so great in high school I always got double hashbrowns covered and it alway made me feel so much better.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

It actually makes your stomach worse, though, to eat greasy food when having a hangover. It makes you feel instantly better because the grease "sops up" all the acids etc in your stomach created from the boozing, but after that effect settles, you are much worse off! I read that somewhere reputable.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally is right, I read somewhere equally reputable that while it may make you feel a bit better from a comfort food perspective, what actually happens is that instead of processing the booze out of your system your liver starts to process the fat instead so the hangover ends up lasting longer.

And coffee dehydrates you so is just another quick fix. Lots of water + nurofen + sleep as soon as you can.

Emma, Friday, 30 May 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

a plunge in the sea, if at all viable (i realise it probably isn't) also works wonders. in combination with hair-of-the-dog, even better.

cameron, Friday, 30 May 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

If we were all concerned about feeling better in the short term v. feeling better in the long term, well we wouldn't be hung over then would we?

teeny (teeny), Friday, 30 May 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

The Hangover is as much a part of the whole indulgence of The Raz tho - in fact, The Hangover is perhaps more indulgent, you know, all that lounging around groaning, smoking endless joints to take the edge off and watching films... sometimes when I go out hard, I'm signing up for The Hangover just as much as I'm signing up for drunken foolishness.

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 30 May 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

(secretly me too alex!)

teeny (teeny), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, i will add to my coca cola over ice + percocet...

does that girl live near to an IN-N-OUT...? i can't think of a time a double double didn't get rid of a hangover.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

No In-N-Outs in Texas. :(

However I did order a pizza for my 7th period class so there's that to look forward to.

That Girl (thatgirl), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Ugh, I've got one myself this morning.

I find 1. water, water, water... 2. excedrin 3. hot shower 4. glass of coke 5. cheeseburger

to be about the best you can do. The excedrin is the key, must have that aspirin + caffeine combo. I fucking hate it when I stay over at someone's place or I'm on vacation, and I'm hungover, and there's no excedrin, or I'm offered "ibuprofin". I fucking hate ibuprofin! Ibuprofin doesn't do jack shit for a hangover! Who the fuck takes ibuprofin for a hangover!

Really the only true way to get over a hangover, unfortunately, is to start drinking again. obv, this is not usually desirable.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Really the only true way to get over a hangover, unfortunately, is to start drinking again. obv, this is not usually desirable.

I concur. Hair of the dog is usually the quickest way out of a hangover but potentially the surest way to your next.

However, if you think you can control yourself, a strong bloody Mary with an extra shot of tobasco thrown into a tall glass filled with crushed ice is what I used to use as a cure. These days I am done after a single beer so the need for a cure has been a long time away.

Roman (Roman), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

KFC mashed potatoes and gravy, multivitamins, and water. And Excedrin. And maybe Sudafed. Or a scotch and soda.

willpie, Friday, 30 May 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

five months pass...
Oh god oh god, revive. Please.

I am chewing mint gum to keep myself from throwing up.

I am getting bedspins at my computer.

I *TOLD* HSA that I needed to call in sick to work today, but he kicked me out of bed most rudely and made me crawl in to work.

Citizen Kate (kate), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

The chasm of the delayed aftereffects, etc. etc. etc.

Citizen Kate (kate), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Hangover: n. The delayed after effects of drinking too much alcohol.

Intense fear. The fear, the fear. The crapulent abyss, the chasm of the delayed after effects. Well, we were showing off a bit. Oh, but the fear, the sweaty nose, the nausea, the sky may crack, the legs aren't there. Grim.

Citizen Kate (kate), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Nobody loves me. Wah.

Citizen Kate (kate), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Crikey Kate how much did you drink? Because I was there early doors I started getting the mother of all headaches once home about 2200 - I then drank lots of water and am ok today if a little tired. You can try one of those hangover recovery herbal sachets if anywhere near hippy shops but they do tend to say "drink three pints of water and this little sachet and you will be ok" - er hold on.

IN the meantime, a million Nurofen. If you are that bad though, just go home! I fainted twice on Friday and my day went oot the windae. Ask if you can take work home if needbe. (They won't allow me to take work home here - which I was perfectly willing to do - oh dearie me har har).

Sarah (starry), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I wondered why you werent posting kate! I would say eat some salted crisps & drink full fat coke. i hope you are feeling better soon.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

baked beans on toast with worcester sauce in, as much water you can stomeach, and have a poo.

chris (chris), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I only had about 3 or 4 pints at the FAP, but then I went to a party afterwards and drank practically an entire bottle of Malibu by myself. I think it was more to do with the "not eating anything but cookies all day" thing as much as the quantity of alcohol. :-(

I was expecting roast veggies but they were gone by the time Ems and I got to the pub. :-(

I need to get something to eat, I think this is the problem. Early lunch, yes!

Citizen Kate (kate), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Lots to eat is U&K

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Throwing up is U&K, and then some nice carb-heavy food, and then a nice pint of something. work, bah!

Enrique (Enrique), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

When I said "take a million nurofen", I wasn't recommending suicide as the only way of STOPPING THE PAIN although I considered it briefly last Friday morning.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

For serious or just cos you felt ill?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Dr Pepper and cold pizza.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Have got a big egg mayonaise baguette and some crisps and a can of coke.

I think I'm seriously dehydrated - I have vague memory of waking up in the middle of the night completely parched and wanting some water, stumbling to the kitchen to find that the water coming out of the tap was all cloudy and weird so I didn't drink any.

Citizen Kate (kate), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Get drinking some water kate, but make sure you have salt & sugar too. If you can stomach it (& it doesnt make you sick) Alka Seltzer xs is really good.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Have got a big egg mayonaise baguette

God that makes me feel ill.

Enrique (Enrique), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Too much egg mayo can do that!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Nothing better when you have a hangover!

The bread is really stale, too, which is good for a hangover. You want to eat all sorts of revolting things...

Citizen Kate (kate), Monday, 10 November 2003 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah! Veggie sausage sanwiches rules when you have a hangover. Oh & cream crackers & loads of butter.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Alas I cannot tolerate coffee this morning. HSA kept trying to pour cups of coffee down my throat and they made me feel ill. Even gingerbread latte made me feel vaguely queasy. Coke is about all I can tolerate.

Citizen Kate (kate), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Orange juice always makes me feel worse when I've got a hangover.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Take B Complex vitamin with a tall glass of water before going to bed. It helps every time.

coconut water actually seems to work pretty well

mh, Thursday, 4 August 2011 17:52 (fourteen years ago)

I use the purple Vitamin Water (called Revive) and it works pretty well to rehydrate you and give you potassium. For nausea, Dramamine works like a charm.
