I just moved there. Tell me about it (if you have anything to tell).

POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 2 June 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I know very little about Tooting, but it was the setting for Citizen Smith and is therefore totally classic place to live!

The Bec in Tooting Bec stands for Becoming, apparently.

Alfie (Alfie), Monday, 2 June 2003 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I played gigs repeatedly at a crummy pub called 'The Castle' on the high street (was just north of Tooting Broadway tube on the
west side of the street). Wonder if it's still there.

David (David), Monday, 2 June 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

It is. Not been in yet though.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 2 June 2003 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Its got a good song named after its station.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 2 June 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

You could get a bus to where I work. Loose Women is on the telly in the canteen. When I get off lunch I'm putting letters in envelopes, which will constitute the highlight of my day.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 2 June 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Tooting is so called because its where the first car horns were manufactured in Britain. this is completely....true...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 2 June 2003 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't stop humming Kitchens of Distinction, if that helps.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't stop humming Kitchens of Distinction, if that helps.

Ned, you bastard. Now you've got me doing it, and that's hardly my favorite Kitchens song.

I guess it could be worst. Before I read this thread I was going through my mental catalog of fart jokes... so the world has apparently been spared.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Where is Tooting?

jel -- (jel), Monday, 2 June 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 2 June 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Tooting is only about 7 miles from Ealing jel

stevem (blueski), Monday, 2 June 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Where is most of the NZ crew?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 2 June 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I wouldn't know, I've never tooted. (Look, someone had to do it.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 2 June 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

really? Wow, it must be on the other side of that blue thing that runs right across London! :)

jel -- (jel), Monday, 2 June 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i thought about moving there for a while

stevem (blueski), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to a party there once.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't realise how far south it was.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Apparently it's twinned with the gold mining town Rootin-Tootin' in 18th-century Texas

j0e (j0e), Monday, 2 June 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

It's pretty much the southernmost place that still feels like London.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

my friend andy lived there he works for g0rdon ramsey

james (james), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
Is it better than Bromley?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 06:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I would say so, Bromley's a bit dull, conservative and provincial - it has that small-town mentality whereas Tooting, as Tom says, feels like London.

Alfie (Alfie), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 06:54 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
How is Tooting Bec Lido?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 29 September 2003 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

ten years pass...

I'm moving to Tooting. What's a Tooting.

Merdeyeux, Saturday, 8 March 2014 17:51 (eleven years ago)

Which end of Tooting? Some ends of Tooting are nicer than other ends of Tooting's... mothers?

claim you hate me; read my twitter account ~religiously~ (Branwell Bell), Saturday, 8 March 2014 18:02 (eleven years ago)

it's a bit east of Tooting Broadway station, near something that seems to be called Tooting Graveney Common.

Merdeyeux, Saturday, 8 March 2014 18:20 (eleven years ago)

oh btw if anyone wants to move in with me we have two rooms to fill.

Merdeyeux, Saturday, 8 March 2014 18:20 (eleven years ago)

Oh, OK. That bit sounds OK. I can never remember which bit of the common is the Bec and which bit is Graveney. I presume the Graveney has a bit of the Graveney river above ground in it somewhere.
