Derision greets BBC plan to turn asylum into a game

Chriddof (Chriddof), Monday, 2 June 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a refugee, let me into here!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Madness. Can't possibly get past the "I know, we could do a show like this blah blah blah..." stage. Can it?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 2 June 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatever next? A gameshow where people press buttons, answer questions & win money? jeez!

countdown to a game show that steals its name from WCKR SPGT's immortal EP-title "Who Will Die?": T-minus two years

Am I the only person who thinks that, depending on HOW they do this it could actually be a very interesting and possibly even constructive social study? It's hardly likely to be Big Brother with Iraqi expats, is it?

Of course, it could be fucking terrible, but still...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 2 June 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

To be fair to the BBC, it doesn't actually look like it's supposed to be 'a game' at all. More like one of those tedious David Dimbleby or Nicky Campbell hosted studio discussion programme with essential 'viewer interactive' component.

You can't let that stand in the way of the Guardian stirring up a bit of feelgood liberal moral outrage though, can you?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 2 June 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

like one of those "hypotheticals"? => those are often really interesting

(i think involving an actual real live asylum case wd be a poor idea)

mark s (mark s), Monday, 2 June 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

As a documentary it would be interesting, but getting people to vote, is not a good idea.

i wonder what The Sun Says

stevem (blueski), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I must admit I didn't read the article properly at first - I was somewhat too hasty in posting the link up for all of you to look at. Now that I've read the way they say they're going to handle it, it does actually sound like it could be a genuinely interesting programme.

Chriddof (Chriddof), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The "game show" element, tho, still sounds crap.

Chriddof (Chriddof), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Sadly this ain't. Some people just don't have their heads screwed on tight enough. We Canadians are evil and we are using the UN to get at our foolish American neighbours. MUHAHHAHAHAHA!
