Facial Ticks...

Errr... weird question. I've been under a lot of pressure recently with... stuff, and as such, I've actually developed a facial tick. I mean, my face starts randomly jerking every now and then, especially when I'm feeling irritated.

Does anyone know how ticks are caused/cured/whatever?

Oh, and the first person to post a picture of the cartoon "The Tick" gets me coming round to their house to kill their pets.

I went to the Highlands last week and got two ticks. One on my arm and one on my foot. Nice!

(it's 'tic', Dom).

Is it "tic"? Right... that's why my Google searches have turned up fuck all...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes it's tic, and stress can set it off. Try eliminating caffeine if you can, that helps.

caffeine definitely brings mine right on

alternatively you could embrace your tic and develop that into a screen persona. george clooney makes a good living this way. head tilt, smirk, head tilt, smirk.

in all seriousness reducing intake of coffee, nicotine and booze may help

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

heh. reduction jim, not eradicating. imagine a world without vices.

shortage of magnesium can create these.

huffaho, Tuesday, 3 June 2003 07:06 (twenty-one years ago)

where can we get this magnesium?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 07:29 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah, magnesium helps you absorb calcium, and they both reduce muscle contractions/cramps. You can buy a combo vitamin for it.

I hope not. I've had an eye twitch for a week & I don't wanna die. Let's make a pact to LIVE, DAMMIT

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 11 November 2011 05:25 (thirteen years ago)

okay! can stress cause this?

horseshoe, Friday, 11 November 2011 05:28 (thirteen years ago)

and caffeine I think

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 11 November 2011 06:03 (thirteen years ago)

lack of sleep causes my eyes to get twitchy

buzza, Friday, 11 November 2011 06:04 (thirteen years ago)

stress can def cause this. I go through periods of mad face twitching for like a month or so until I go to the docs and they give me diazepam.

owenf, Friday, 11 November 2011 23:55 (thirteen years ago)

I've heard (though have not bothered to Google to confirm) that low potassium can cause an eye twitch. I tend to get them when I'm really tired. So my advice is to eat a banana and go to bed.

They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Saturday, 12 November 2011 00:41 (thirteen years ago)

I get a strong twitch (it's visible if I look in a mirror) on the left side of my chin every once in a while.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Saturday, 12 November 2011 04:42 (thirteen years ago)

there's a real difference between a compulsive twitch thing and a facial muscle spasm which are really common.
