RFI: Recommend books about the Mexican-American War

Please. The gaps in my knowledge of American historic are pathetic.

I can't recommend a book, but I do have a dull anecdote - I saw a boardgame of the Mexican-American war once, and to replicate President Polk's lack of decisiveness the US player had to roll on the Polk Indecision Table each turn, to see whether he could send his forces south of some arbitrary line.

The McPherson book about the American Civil War talks a bit about the Mexican War, but more in terms of its consequences than its causes or course.
