It Feels Nice to Be Back 'Round

So yeah I haven't been around for a few weeks mostly due to no good reason but I have started a new temp position as a receptionist, and since there is an average of one call per 30 minutes, I think I may have some spare time :-)

Anyways, I am working in DC for the next few days on Capitol Hill, which means that my preppie ties get to come out of the closet (instead of living vicariously through hip Tokyo fashionistas, I actually got the preppy look from going to boarding school, inlcuding this marvelous burgundy, navy and gold striped tie that I am wearing).

I usually dont start threads about myself but I got three hours of sleep last night, and how are you? :-)

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Is 3 hours sleep a good thing or a bad thing for you?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

It means that I cant make any meaningfull intellectual contribution to this board, but it also means that I am more chatty, probably due to the copious amounts of coffee I must consume to work well.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Uh huh, gotcha! Well hello there!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

hi. how is the weather where you are? It was nice and warm yesterday, but is now cold again. this is very unusual for DC.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

dreary in nyc. again. and i cant hear myself think between the jackhammers outside my window and the dreadful techno music coming from the apartment across the street

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

is all techno dreadful or just that which is coming from the apartment? i actually prefer the dreary weather to what DC summers are usually like: death.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

It's really humid & horrible here (cambridge, uk. It was really hot and lovely & sunny at the w/e now it has changed to stormy weather.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i want you to want my preppie tie

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

don't we even get a photo of said tie first? :)

janni (janni), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i will look around for one

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

cant find picture

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Aaron. We need another DC FAP. Must drink beer.

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

yes when are you around? ia m headed north soon.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Eh, I don't know. I'm not really ready to visit my family again. But we'll be up in NYC for the 4th of July MegaFAP, will you be up there by then?

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

welcome back Aaron.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaron that's not polite to get me all worked up like that.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I should Nick... I am going to that FAP regardless.
cheers Ronan... you need to be on AIM more, now that you are donw tih exams...
all worked up, Mary? over what, preppy ties or me moving? if the former is the case, fear not, as i am sure, one day, there will be a FAP on a Friday night and I will be coming straight from work or dinner and I will not have had time to change and i will splay myself out on a couch at some random bar, burgundy/navy/gold tie loosened and hair toussled in a manner that could only suggest a casual yachting expedition taken off the coast of Connecticut near Greenwich. And I will wear a pink shirt and khakis for Halloween ;-)
(i like this whole preppy fashion thing because now all of the junk that my parents bought me at Nordstroms when I was 16 is suddenly more valuable then all the Prada in Barneys haha)

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 5 June 2003 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

aaron if you are going to keep going on about your preppy tie the least you could do is post a picture...(please?)

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 5 June 2003 02:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i really couldnt find one i went to the manufacturer website and the nordstrom website but i will keep looking.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 5 June 2003 03:32 (twenty-two years ago)

here it is but i think mine is better

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 5 June 2003 03:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i hope your hopes arent dashed its just classic preppie

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 5 June 2003 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

no sleep last night again... i still like this job... i feel "a part of it all" riding the train to Cap Hill whilst reading the Wash Post. our PAC director is quite busy, and I get a kick out of saying "Sorry Senator, but she is busy right now. Would youy like her voice mail?" so much fun.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 5 June 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

today my necktie is a pattern with gold, olive and black circles and stripes. very art deco. no link available. :-(

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 5 June 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

b-but aaron i want to you you in the tie (very nice one by the way)

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 5 June 2003 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Another Monday, another day to be cracked-out from lack of sleep guzzling office coffee and reading WashPost! Yay!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Whilst I celebrate my boss-less week!

Happy receptionist job, Aaron. I'm listening to Unwound and paying bills (which is a lot less painful when done at work because you are getting paid to do it).

In a bit I might get up and take a stroll to the FAX machine for kicks.

Glad you'll be at the FAP.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

yes i will def. be at july 4.
FAX machine sounds fun. we have two old skool ones that are huge!
i have been going into the kitchen and staring at the girls scout cookies. my stomach is telling me that it is too early but i am not sure i agree.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I think someone here brought in cookies. Must investigate.

Sarah MCLUsky (coco), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Sugar Snooper!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

*sigh* No cookies. But I did find an unopened package of Skittles on top of the vending machine.

Sarah MCLusky (coco), Monday, 9 June 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Blurgh. I am hungry. I can't decide whether to eat a cup of soup at my desk, thus saving my entire lunch hour to sit outside and read the short stories of V. Nabokov, or drive about 10-15 minutes to the fancy grocery store where I could get a big sandwich with fake turkey or ham in it which sounds pretty good but would cut pretty severely into my reading time.

NA. (Nick A.), Monday, 9 June 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

this is prob my last week of work pre nyc so i am tempted to just stay at desk and work 9-6 and get 45 hrs for overtime pay... that way i can justify the amount of money i will be tempted to spend on the last day of my record store discount...

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Monday, 9 June 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

But what are you wearing?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 9 June 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

today? i am repeating myself a bit... black leather shoes, grey wool trousers (still cold enough), white button down, green and gold art deco tie, washington post, weariness.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Monday, 9 June 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

eight months pass...
god this thread!

i am drunk right now. i am a fucking server at a microbrewery and again i am drunk. i am lucky to pull $300 in sales a night. i would ask for help or advice but there is nothing that you can do for me that vodka or kahlua cant do just as well.

Aw. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 27 February 2004 06:38 (twenty-one years ago)

shit ned now i remember who i forgot to big-up. i have you to thank for many night listening to "white car in germany" whilst drunk on the Metro.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 27 February 2004 06:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Woo!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 27 February 2004 06:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope you are not being sarcastic. i have had three of those discs on special order since last spring and theyhave still not come in (4th drawer, sulk, bbc vol. 1). i can burn them yes, but they are discs to own, knowhatimean? why is it that the associates still sound miles ahead of everyone else? why are they better at evoking the imagery of jg ballard than ballard himself? why did tom have a bottle of belvedere to share at his apartment tonight when i was planning on staying relatively sober?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 27 February 2004 06:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I would never be sarcastic about the Associates, as they are grandiose. Tom wished to share in alcoholic glory.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 27 February 2004 06:55 (twenty-one years ago)

tom got the belvedere for free somehow. he makes good white russians. we went out tonight to our favorite bar but they were out of our favorite beers (yeungling for me, shiner for tom) so i had guiness and tom had highlife and harp and then the bartender bought us a round of shots which were Gran Mar. + Irish Mist. drafts= $3, pizza = $2. happy hour is great because you find yourself to be drunk at 8pm with plenty of time left to make stupid comments about ploitics and music.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 27 February 2004 07:00 (twenty-one years ago)

speaking of politics, i cant understand all the hubub about gay marriages... surely, they arent supposed to be melancholy affairs?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 27 February 2004 07:10 (twenty-one years ago)

oh and i am wearing black pumas, black jeans, weathered tasefully by hugo boss, a white t, and an olive green solid cashmere sweater.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 27 February 2004 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

six months pass...
its time again!

anyways... more stories from the degreeless highlife...

had a party at the lounge tonight.. it was supposed to be sort-of-an-employee party but somehow i got coralled into bartending inside while the majority of guests were dancing to top-level djs outside. gave away more alcohol to friends-of-the-house than many of you have drunk in yr whole lives, drank a bit tonight. since i thought i would be lounging tonight instead of working, i wore my second-most-expensive shirt in der arsenal (DKNY, Olive Green, Well-Cut), and proceeded to sweat it up in the DC humidity. of course, and maybe this is true for others, my second-most-expensive shirt came replete with fussy "care" label, so, after arrving home at 5:45 from said party where i bartended, drank, and closed the bar down as bartender and barback, i had to worry about "cold hand wash, flat dry, cool iron, no drycleaning".

of course, since second-most-expensive-shirt is not paid off yet (Saks loves me like a corporation should), a hand-wash-existential-crisis-at-6am is inveitable.

for all of my neuroticisms, at least DJ Farid played Tavares' "More than a Woman" and also "Dirty Lowdown" and a rare remix of Adonis' "No Way Back". Sometimes its so dark that nobody can tell that i cant dance, and, coincidentally, that's when I dance best.

so, how you?
