Fry the tofu in butter in a wok or frying pan until it's slightly golden, then add the sake-soy-sugar-salt mix and keep frying until there's no excess liquid. Add the egg, keep cooking and stir - you want the same kind of consistency as scrambled aggs.
Looks kind of manky, but tastes lovely.

Me, I like tofu in soups, namely the famous miso and sweet & sour soups. If it weren't so hot outside, I would be dying for a bowl of any of those two soups. Not literally dying of course, as that would just be silly, but rather yearning for them on the inside.
Couldn't you use tofu in a veggie-friendly potato salad? I don't know what you'd use as a substitute for the hard boiled egg yolks, but the hard boiled egg white parts could be replaced with tofu. But what to do with the mayonnaise part? Is there such a thing as a dairy-free sour cream? Hmmm. I see this as a recipe challenge -- a potato salad vegans can eat.

Dee: dammit, i ought to post a recipe for salad kaek. my mom ALWAYS put tofu in it, and i really can't imagine it without it! SO good. it's this nice cold Thai salad. i can't remember the right proportions off the top of my head to make the special sauce that goes over it (a spicy peanut sauce), which is why i can't post it right this second, but i'll try to do so soon...perfect for hot days! :)

No way. Really? Margarine over butter?

It's weirds that people eat tofu with meat. I just never thought of that. All the tofu recipes I know are too long and drawn out. So I can just say anything that says ricotta cheese you can use crumbled firm tofu mixed with garlic, chives, salt , pepper and nutrional yeast (for the cheesy flavor).

s1utsky: Yes way. *nods* See the post I made under "T/S: Butter vs. Margarine". I already know I'm a big weirdo, thank you very much.
Carey: You are a god[dess]! Tofutti and the vegan mayonnaise will definitely be a big help to me as I take up my challenge to formulate vegan recipes for some of my personal favorites. Hey, maybe if all this works out and I can formulate a business plan, in a few years I might open up a vegan-friendly restaurant!

This is exactly why I don't like tofu--because it has the same kind of consistency (and taste) as scrambled eggs. Ick.

But the tofu sucks in all the lovely animal fats and tastes just like the meat. The bacon and jerk tofu dish was an act of pure desperation where me and my roomates tried to cook with whatever was left in the fridge. Im just glad that it worked out so great. In no small part due to bacon + pepper combination.

i second this very strongly. especially the chocolate popsicle/frozen treat things. imagine if ice cream was slightly chewy ... these things are wonderful!
the organic market where my g/f works uses one of the tofutti spreads (i believe similar to cream cheese) on one of their sandwiches and it's proven very popular.
as for tofu recipes, i should own this thread, but the realization dawned on me that how i cook tofu doesn't vary that much, only the things i cook it with.
i generally take extra-firm tofu and cube it or make slices out of it. then i heat up a pan with some sesame oil in it (sesame oil is quite important).
then i fry the tofu with a mixture of any of the following ingredients:
1. soy sauce2. balsamic vinegar3. sambal oelek (a hot chili sauce)4. nutritional yeast flakes5. marmite (it's best if you dissolve the marmite in a tiny bit of boiling water first)6. chili oil7. mustard8. garlic or ginger (though it's rare i do this anymore)9. liquid smoke (get your pork taste on, yo!)10.turmeric
then i serve the shit any number of ways. i'm very fond of tofu in sandwiches, tofu on pizza etc.
