due to natural magnetic buildup, computer monitors will sometimes experience loss of colour purity, and will need to be degaussed, or so i've heard. i've also heard there's a special button to do this, but i haven't seen any on the monitors i've used, so i don't know how prevalent this is.
people who recycle audio and videocassettes will often do this; there are big machines that are essentially gigantic, superpowerful magnets which will erase anything and everything there is on the tapes if the tapes are passed over them a few times.
