buyer's remorse

I just bought a car tonight, the first car I've ever purchased, and even though all signs point to me having gotten a decent deal on a car I more or less wanted, I can't get over the fact that I GOT RAPED and made a tragic, horrible mistake, and have condemned myself to 5 years of poverty paying on a beast I will grow to hate with every passing day.

It's not like the remorse I had when I bought the Jam live at the BBC 3 CD set and realized that I wasn't really that big a Jam fan.

Does everyone feel this way when they make big purchases? Make me feel better.

Oh of course. It's almost inevitable. I get it even from small purchases (I have no money, should i really have bought those 4 cd's?)

What kind of car? how old? miles? Perhaps I can tell you if it was a find.

my experience with car buying has led me to believe that marriage is not for me.

I spent $114 on two (yes, two!) DVDs the other week. They were region 1 imports. I could have ordered them online for like $20 canadian, but I didnt want to wait. So I impulse-bought them in a shop instead. I am a dill.

I hope one of them was 'Christmas Ape in Manhattan'

Buying DVDs like that (and CDs) was what got me into credit debt to begin with (my college years were a fiasco of high interest cards even though I had no job, and the joy of discovering the internet and CDNow and buying all kids of shit I couldn't afford). I still have to choke down impulse web purchases. I had these great plans of paying off my cards this year, but got married (expensive), and then my car pooped (and I need it for a horrible commute). I have never regreted past superfluous spending more than now (beginning to get over the car purchase though. It will be nice to drive to work in a car that isn't overheating and has a working CD player).

I bought a 2000 Honda Accord for 16k, around 50k miles. Looking around it seems to be an alright deal, it's dealer certified and has a ridiculously lengthy warranty and I'll probably trade it in next spring for something else. What sucked is the insurance ($200 a month! What the fuck?), but I just discovered another company that will only charge me half that.

What DVDs were they, btw?

Donnie Darko and 24 hour party people. Neither are yet available region 4 in Australia (cept for rental). Ive watched DD so many times it isnt funny.

Oops - the fact there exists a film called "Christmas Ape in Manhattan" scares the pants off me.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 06:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, if only it did exist. If only...

I'm going to bid on this, because I've had no luck finding the mp3. Talk me out of it!

I know what you mean anthony, i brought my car (n reg vw golf gti) in december & it was a bargain & i love it so much, but recently someone hit it on the wednesday & then on the thursday, the clutch went to the tune of £420!!! I didn't really love my car that week. However, absence makes the heart grow fonder & whilst i pootle around in a crappy punto that takes forever to get to top speed, i miss my car! (i fear this pattern of behaviour will be repeated when it goes in for it's mot in july. :-( )

Jermaine Stewart clearly only had one set of clothes:

Sometimes when you intensely want something expensive, it's not worth having as it causes so much anxiety (have I made the right decision, can I afford it, what if it get damaged/someone steals it).

The compensatory side is that sometimes years later you rediscover your a purchase that you thought was a mistake at the time and enjoy it.

This is how I feel about replacing my broken mp3 player - fearing buyer's remorse, in the forms of guilt at having such a big sum of disposable income I'm not giving to the poor, and anger 8 months down the road when I'll wish I'd saved the money for rent! But I really want one so I will soon anyway.

I have the opposite of buyer's remorse. The more expensive something is, the surer I am that I did the right thing. Just got a new Mac with 30" display and I'm all like, how did I ever get along without this????

libcrypt, Saturday, 23 February 2008 21:33 (seventeen years ago)
