Who's watching this one? I kind of like this cast.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I missed it because I was at work until 11:45. Is anyone completely loathsome?

(I have to say that watching the Challenge and selected episodes of the Hawaii season reminded me of how much I liked Ruthie.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, there is Adam who's father was one of the Commodores. I'm wondering if it was Lionel Ritchie because this kid is all chin. He completely got out of hand two days into the show because a female roomate didn't want to hook up with him. There is also a kid from Boston of course. Thinks he's the shit.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Adam seems impossible; I don't think I'd last a minute living with him. What's odd is that he seems to know his faults well but flaunts them nonetheless, to get attention. Very Calum-esque. The Irish boy is cute, but seemingly not stupid or mercurial enough to get much attention from the MTV cameras. Ace is really genial; I'm sure MTV will manage to find or invent his "dark side" but so far he seems awesomely mature and level-headed by Real World standards. The girl from Chicago--it looked to me as though she was from the suburbs, but what do I know: the producers were pretty clumsy in how they set her up as the Good Girl and then made the revelation that she is actually something of the Bad Girl (her world-weary facial expressions in the latter half of the show spell trouble I think); however it came too soon to have much dramatic impact. I suspect they'll try to trade on the "shocking" Good Girl/Bad Girl thing for the rest of the show, though. There were some cute Parisiens in the background at some of the bar scenes.

I'm taking notes since I'll be spending the fall there.

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Also Adam seems like a vortex of wrongheadedness; all his advice to other roommates is terrible and I hope they don't take him seriously. Actually I hope they can just wall him off in a remote corner of that lovely mansion MTV has provided for them.

Ace's hats are a nice touch. I like how he seems thoughtful about them, using them as props, like a school counselor. "These are for defusing arguments."

I like the blonde girl from NY, she seems genuinely vivacious as opposed to Vivacious in the "my secret ambition is to become a stripper" sense of so many cast members from similar shows. But one never knows.

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Also do ANY of these people speak French? Or is that the point? I'd like to see just one long scene with subtitles, or just long stretches of one of the cast members trying to negotiate a French supermarket.

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't actually watch the Real World, I just read the summarys at Planet Socks.

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Best moment so far: Ace on the Pont-neuf yelling "I am Americano!"

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

" But I will not be afraid to quit, if a girl's not feeling me and giving me shit. I will prove my love by setting her free, her heart is the lock and my knife is the key "

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"He wouldn't f*** you with MY d****!!!"

Andy K (Andy K), Thursday, 5 June 2003 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

So last nights was boring. Except for Chris being completely loaded and proclaiming "I want a sausage" thinking he was in Boston. Funny, I do the same thing. Adam's chin was kicking it last night.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Ace and Adam are NOT coming across well so far. I would love to lock them in a broom closet with Hawaii Matt and KA-1A.

I thought I was going to like Mallory until the promo showing her falling for Ace came up. Now I think she is DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB. Yes, fall for the biggest pussy in the house, that's the move! Idiot.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I think all of them are an even more stupid and obnoxious pack of idiots than the RW Las Vegas cast, a feat I had not imagined possible til now.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yes and then the cut to Mallory in the confessional "You guys are exploiting me..." What the fuck do you expect dippy?

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I also think this cast has quite possible the worst hairdo's than any other cast in existence.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Leah is the only one with halfway decent hair. I was kind of liking her until the pathetic ass-biting incident, then I lost all respect.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

what's sad is that despite the fact that these people knew what they were getting into and eagerly signed on the dotted line, watching them be exploited is nonetheless kind of wrenching at times. the clumsier the manipulation (the editing in this season is particularly jarring and bad), the worse it seems.

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

next year:

Real World: Salo

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Larry Clark directs.

Aaron A., Wednesday, 11 June 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

The ass-biting was classic if only because of the telephone conversation that followed:

LEAH: There's this one guy, he SOOOOO hot; I seriously can't keep my hands off of him.
FRIEND: (sarcastically) Why don't you just bite him on the ass, then?
LEAH: ...I already did that.
FRIEND: WHAT???? (five minutes of incoherent laughter)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

that must be a Long Island thing. Chillin in the Hamptons bitin ass.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

It reminds me of The Fifth Wheel.

Ryan McKay (Ryan McKay), Thursday, 12 June 2003 01:22 (twenty-two years ago)

woah dan.. thats krazy how you used the term "ka-1a" i came up with that in a post from a real world site like years ago.

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 12 June 2003 08:02 (twenty-two years ago)

!!!!!!!

I totally cribbed that from PlanetSocks.com (formerly RealWorldBlows.com)!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 12 June 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

yah i was corndog on that bbs back in the day.

chaki (chaki), Friday, 13 June 2003 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i haven't caught up with any episodes since the first. has the commodore-spawn done anything creepy again?

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 13 June 2003 01:24 (twenty-two years ago)

not really. he did bust into an impromtu version of "Nightshift" while he was nude and wearing viking horns.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 13 June 2003 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i think throwing a tantrum over the mallory business, and reducing leah to tears were both creepy. also his little "rap" "song" was creepily awful

ron (ron), Friday, 13 June 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Regarding Adam: people who look like human Muppets don't get to criticize the looks of others.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 13 June 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, he is notably not-attractive for a RW cast member. they must've known he was pyscho when they cast him.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Who was the last non-psycho person they cast on The Real World? I mean, the most understandable people in the LA cast were BRYNN AND ARISSA; we're not talking about your average sanity metric here.

Actually, I guess Chicago Keri, Theo and Chris weren't psycho but Cara, Kyle, Tonya and Aneesa more than made up for them.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Eric Nies

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

You'd pick ERIC as the non-psycho from the original cast? (Not that any of them were psycho when compared to the LA cast, but anyway.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

That Edmond or Stanton or whatever is name is on RWRV seemed a bit deluded but hardly psycho.

I don't even remember RW-Chicago any more.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

RWRV = RWLV? Are you talking about Alton? Mr "I cope with the oppressive guilt caused by failing to protect my little brother from being raped and murdered by being a complete man-ho and flying into blinding alcohol-fueled rages at the drop of a hat"?

I completely understand his behavior but I don't think it was particularly sane. And I NEVER would have gotten involved with someone like Irulan EVER. NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER. She was pure unmitigated evil on that show.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The new road rules guy Abram is a nut job. "FUCCCCCCCCCCCCCK YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU....GRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

No, Dan, RWRV was obviously the season set in the Winnebago. Were you sleeping through 1994?

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

the most sane real worlders were the responsible working women, such as pam or that one which was the cop (i think) who was friends with the country/western fellow, (jon?)

ron (ron), Saturday, 14 June 2003 01:00 (twenty-two years ago)

LA Irene (as opposed to Seattle Irene, whose Lyme disease bout and deeply disturbed and repressed roommates drove her crazy).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 14 June 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

London was the sanest cast. But the crazies make for better TV.

nickn (nickn), Saturday, 14 June 2003 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

adam spoiled commadore's son that throws a fit when he doesnt get what he wants. what a little bitch!

chaki (chaki), Saturday, 14 June 2003 06:36 (twenty-two years ago)

The thing that struck me about watching the London cast was that more than any other group I kept wishing I was living with them; there weren't any toxic interpersonal dynamics going on that made me want to run far away (see: LA, SF, Miami, Boston, Seattle, Hawaii, B2NY, Chicago, LV). (Ptee has a very different take on them but it's got to be different dealing with them as roommates as opposed to as an invisible production person.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 14 June 2003 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

will the new rw cast ever become superstars? that's the real question.

faggotry (faggotry), Saturday, 14 June 2003 12:43 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
This C.T. cat is a pimp. Adams chin is looking bigger and bigger these days.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't find any of them remotely likeable, and Adam just becomes more laughable with every episode. The one where he hooks up the girl and she wouldn't even speak to him the next day almost made me feel bad for him, but it was still funny.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't like any of them either, even though Im partial to Chris because he's from Boston. Well Methuen actually so that explains why I only 50% like him. I really have a feeling that the alcoholic virgin is not a virgin. And yes I did feel bad for Mr. Chin as well. We'll see how this plays out. Road Rules on the other hand is hysterical. "Cornbread!"

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Did Abe get kicked off? I missed the new episode.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes he did. There was a bit of overacting on the girls part. Screaming and crying and "I can't watch this" bullshit when they saw the tape. I mean they never saw a fist fight before? Even though Abe's basically a shithead, Donnell isn't exactly a peach to deal with.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Abe got booted so fast I'm sure his head is still spinning months later. Joei and I had severe problems with this because while Abe is a loathsome Neanderthal and deserved to go, DONNELL MUST GO TOO BEFORE HE EMBARRASSES BLACK PEOPLE ACROSS THE COUNTRY ANY FURTHER.

I completely heart Christena, though.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Donnell is an asshat. So is Abe, but I understood why he wanted to whup Donnell.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm hoping and praying for a "beat-your-largest-teammate-into-a-quivering-pulp-and-then-piss-on-the-sorry-bastard" mission.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Donnells tits are lookin sweet. After all the egging on by Donnell i probably would have done the same thing. I mean you get pushed to a point and basically snap. I would have.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Abe was so great in that scene; it was like he was momentarily possessed by Klan Satan.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

he was funny...everytime I say "Fuck You" now, im doing it abe style. "Fuckkkkk yyyyyyyyyyyyyyooooooooooooooooouuuuuuu" *quiver lip*

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"Come on man, I try to talk to you and I feel like you're disrespecting me.... FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU DONNELL!!!!!!"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

At last the appeal of this show makes a certain sense. You're saying it's like being at a drunken bar confrontation but there's no danger you'll get covered in beer/hit over the head with a breakaway balsa wood chair.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

But we have ilx for that!

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

and I've noticed Matt Pond PA songs being played in the background. Die MTV.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

But but but Chris that means FAME for Matt Pond PA. Or at least some money.

Nicole -- this is true. So that means the TV equivalent is good for when your ISP is down. Uh, yeah.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i know, but as long as they don't appear on Total Request Live or some shit.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorta confused. Do you not want more people to know about them?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

no, no, i hope they go big. I just don't want a rabid bunch of teenies....

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

no selling out!

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris Matt Pond fucking works at Oxygen. How CAN he sell out???

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Oprahs joint?

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah. One of my best friends was his boss. He's obnoxious.

(I should say "worked" cuz all of them got laid off last year)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

urgh.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i wish they'd stop being so mean to chris, especially leah. "nothing he does is genuine!" i disagree, he seems to have a good heart.

ace is ok except when he talks in third person and talks about his "ace places" or whatever.

black plastic (black plastic), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

ace to the nine

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish they'd beat Chris to death, then turn on Adam as he stands to the side laughing and doing that freaky siezure he calls dancing and club him to death with Chris's bizarre helmet-hair.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

my workmates were just talking (loudly) about this show.

i still think the blonde girl is cute, but i tried to watch a few minutes of this the other night and all i heard was screaming and temper-tantrums so i turned it off.

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)
