Have you seen any programmes lately that have done this?

I never lost my faith. I have been watching Buffy, the Simpsons, Sopranos, Cutting It, Angel, South Park, Futurama, CSI, Law & Order, football and more - why would I need to restore my faith in it?

I just watched bits of big brother. I can't do this.

this kind of follows on from a discussion at lunchtime when there were lots of ppl who said they's pretty much given up on TV except for soaps. Howver, i saw a couple of grebt programmes this eve:

Britain's Cleverest Animals - despite the lameness of the title (which would suggest something trite & formulaic re: when X attacks, X from Hell ect ect), this BBC1 programme was fantastic. It avoided excessive hackneyed or repetitive footage and was quite scientific in its approach. This was ETHOLOGY (ie animal behaviour) in a v. watchable format, with investigations abt how various animal's used memory, sight, scent ect ect to find food and hoodwink farmers and other ppl.

The later, Mongrel Nation on Discovery, presented by Eddie Izzard, explaining how, thru the ages, all the inventions, cuisine, language and so forth which we regard as quintissentially English had been brought from elsewhere by our successive waves of invaders. This did suffer from too much repetition, admittedly, but Izzard kept my attention...it was the first time I'd seen him do anything other than stand-up.

Full coverage of an inquiry into the dealings of the US government for the last couple of decades will be the program that does it.

Mongrel Nation was superb. But so was How Clean is Your House - I want to be that HMS-Invincible-meets-Mr-Whippy woman when I grow up

I realise that most of you will now believe that my opinion counts for nil.

j0e, I speshly liked the bit where Izzard was going round the market trying to barter for things! He only wanted a bacon sandwich and it took him half an hour! Then the Romans came along with MONEY and hey presto....

I succumbed completely to Six Feet Under this season. Now I'm getting into The Wire.

For Love or Money was the best thing I've seen in awhile.

MarkH, my favourite bit was when Eddie was talking in Old English to the Fresian man. I also loved the array of odd looks that professor of Old English kept giving him

I wonder if America will get to see the probable wonder that is "Mongrel Nation". If not, I shall get very jealous of our across-the-ocean neighbors. This is a program that I would definitely want to watch.

The "Britain's Cleverest Animals" program sounds incredibly interesting as well. I love programs like that, the ones that inform the viewer in an entertaining fashion. The Biography Channel used to be filled with programs like that, before it got its current celebrity kick and started being the "all 'Entertainment Tonight' all the time" channel.

I love the Discovery Health Channel. Namely, I love what they do on weekend nights and late at night during the weekdays. "The Critical Hour", "Paramedics", "Hopkins 24/7", "Houston Medical", etc., all are fantastic programs IMHO. Tomorrow's "Health Cops: New Orleans" night, so I'm excited about that.

Then again, I like TV. I've never been at a point where I've been tired of TV and never want to watch another TV show ever, which is similar to what happened to me and radio a few years ago.
