Shit man. All i can say is hold tight and don't get too down about it; they may just reappear (possibly). Good luck.

Check the caches at google and at archive.org?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 5 June 2003 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

!!! This is horrible! Is there anything about why they were deleted or is there simply nothing there at all?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

anthony, your archives are still there,

for example on google: i find

http://pinkmoose.blogspot.com/2002_12_01_pinkmoose_archive.html

the way to get around this to LINK YOUR ARCHIVES USING HTML CODE, [it will take less than 30 minutes of HTML coding, see my weblog for example - therefore you don't have to rely on the blogger automated archive links showing up]

Re: i cant republish them

I must admit, this new blogger system - does not seem to have an easy re-publish all function ! unless some can tell me? [i.e if you want your current template, to be reflective in the previous month archives]

this happened to nathalie also right? is it hacker action or some blogger system flaw?

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 5 June 2003 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

just in case, I made a copy to my computer.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 5 June 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

nathalie was not on blogspot at the time, it was a different hosting server that got hacked.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 5 June 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Except the latest, which got overwritten with the new posts asking where the archives were, but that is still there on google cache: http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:www.pinkmoose.blogspot.com/

The first entry on there is the day after the last entry on http://www.pinkmoose.blogspot.com/2003_05_01_pinkmoose_archive.html
so I believe nothing has been permanently lost as long as you save that cached version soon before it gets overwritten.

But apart from that they do all seem to be there. At some point you switched between weekly and monthly archiving but as soon as I work out where that point is I could give you a complete list of links to archives, if you wanted.

how do i republish them as html ?
dudes you fucking rule.

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 5 June 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Apologies, ignore that last sentence: monthly archives go right back, it's just that at the start there are also weekly archives which stop at some point, but you don't need them.

So in addition to Martian's links, you need:

http://www.pinkmoose.blogspot.com/2002_11_01_pinkmoose_archive.html

http://www.pinkmoose.blogspot.com/2001_09_01_pinkmoose_archive.html

(all of which work for me and I can't see any gaps) and the cached one above.

Frazer, Thursday, 5 June 2003 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

how do i get these archives into the site itself.

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 5 June 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

how do i republish them as html ?

by inserting HTML code of these links into your template, suggestion below your links.

eg using the month as part of the text writing on the html [see my weblog for example]

arranged by per year

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 5 June 2003 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

For all except the most recent, you don't need to republish them (though if you do move to Movable Type you might want to do so anyway), you just need to put a link up to these addresses in the sidebar or somewhere. To republish the most recent section which you need to retrieve from Google's cache, hmm... you could try this, but this might not be the best way:

  • go to google's cached version here

  • view the source (in Internet Explorer, this is done by going to the View menu and choosing Source)

  • scroll down to where it says this:

    <div class="date">Monday, June 02, 2003</div>

just after a sign saying "Here is where the posts go!"

  • Select this and everything from there onwards up until the line saying

    <!-- End Posts -->

It doesn't matter if you include this line or not.

  • Copy this into a brand new post! You'll get the three new posts at the end of the archive but *hopefully* it shouldn't cause any further problems. But, see below, I'm not completely sure that it won't, unfortunately...

However, this isn't a great way of doing things - I just tried to test it and it looks fine, so I really hope it is, but can you delete the entry if it goes wrong?

Another possible problem is that all that might be too long for a single post and you'd have to break it up into little chunks, but each chunk would get a new datestamp with today's date on, so doing it all in one would be best to minimise that.

I'm really not entirely happy with that suggestion, though, and I realise that if you don't know much HTML then you may prefer not to mess around with the page source like that, so if anyone else has one then go with theirs. Or you could just save them to hard disk and be glad they're not lost, but don't put them back on the web, I suppose.

re: but can you delete the entry if it goes wrong?
