have you ever tried to expand your vocabulary by posting new words on a post-it on your fridge, and then attempting to use them in as many following conversations as possible?

think of this thread as a fridge,
and ILE generally as those conversations...

lülülü adj dated feeble

example: 'Wenn Sie einmal austreten müssen, dann bitt' ich mir aus: Scharfer Strahl und nicht so lülülü wie die Zivilisten.'
('When you have a piss, remember to blow a forceful jet - not a feeble one like the civilians.')

I have a word-a-day desk calendar, which is great fun. I don't usually remember the words though, I just read them, think "That's interesting," and then forget it. But yesterday's word was "dude." That was neat.

Totting = going through rubbish for items that may be valuable. (is how I describe cataloguing books, death to grey literature)

the last word i learned was 'defile' as a noun - which is like a valley but very narrow, such that a military unit would need to defile in order to march through the defile.

ron (ron), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

"thinkless": a word made up by my daughter's friend to describe how she freezes up in class. "Whenever Mrs. K calls on me, I just get all thinkless."

Neudonym, Friday, 6 June 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)
