My boss on the phone saying it snowed 20 inches last night and so work is cancelled for the week.

NA. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I would imagine that would be a pretty great sound, at least.

NA. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Typing sounds.

buggie night sounds
birdie morning sounds
little water falls
someone starting up a lawn mower
the buzz as you put the guitar cord in the hole when the amp's already on

also:

foghorn
young girls giggling
massive crowd cheering in unison (i.e. when goal is scored)
the old 'reggae laser' sound on dub/ragga/jungle tunes, or the sounds on Roots Manuva's 'Witness'
old skool video game sounds (e.g. 'wokka wokka', 'blip bloop')
the sound Space Ghost used to make when he teleported
that other 'warp' sound effect used on things like Battle Of The Planets and the award title sequences on the MTV Movie Awards last week

deep-voiced women going "mmm" while eating something yummy like chocolate

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, but: cat purring is nice, but it must be combined with tactile fur sensation. I think just a recording of purring would be annoying.

Hunter (Hunter), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

great ones nickalicious (esp. otm regarding the bong, wind thru trees and super mario)

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 21 July 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

I believe the correct answer is, the music of what happens.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Thursday, 21 July 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

Mourning doves, and I suspect the appreciation is genetic, as my mom and my son are also transfixed by their call. One seems to show up every morning atop the peak of the neighbor's roof, and when it calls, the 18 month old immediately turns to the window wide-eyed, waving and going "whooooooo, whoooooOOOooo." And how great is it that when they take flight their wings make another whistling sound?

The sound of a McDonald's straw being pushed back and forth in the soft drink lid makes a fantastic sound. What is the instrument called that seems to show up in reggae songs that sounds like that?

Hunter (Hunter), Thursday, 21 July 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

The 4 train rumble (elevated in the BX), from about a block away.

burna (burna), Friday, 22 July 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

Rotgutt (Rotgutt), Friday, 22 July 2005 00:49 (twenty years ago)

Birdsong of almost any variety. Once I sat out on the back deck having a pint and listened to a mockingbird jabber on for 15-20 minute without repeating himself. Also, hummingbird twitterings are nice.

Truckdrivin' Buddha (Rock Hardy), Friday, 22 July 2005 00:50 (twenty years ago)

the sound of soldiers moving in war movies. I thought about this while watching Band of Brothers again, I love that sound of all their equipment clanging together when they have to run.

Surmounter, Monday, 9 March 2009 13:58 (sixteen years ago)
