Dale Winton's Wedding

OK did anyone see this on BBC1 late last night? not sure if it was on BBC 3, sorry, THREE, ages ago or not but my god, what a mindfuck. Dale marries Nell McAndrew and they're madly in love. i seriously could not work out if it was for real or not. its too absurd to be true, but it was too well done and involved too many celebs to be a joke...the only real part where it seemed like a total charade was when Tara Palmer-Tomkinson was being interviewed and broke down because of her supposed bitterness and jealousy over Dale and Nell, having been an ex-lover of Winton's...

K

now i dont really read the tabloids but i notice no-one seems to have been talking about this much at all in the general media, or is this house of mine really a cave? it was extraordinary TV basically - i mean since when has Graeme Souness been a big enough buddy of Winton's to be out on his stag night with a bunch of queens? just one of the myriad surreal scenes of this programme...funniest sight of all tho was Abs was the reception DJ - he played some quite good songs actually...

I was kinda impressed with Nell's acting skills, but the whole thing was SO FUCKING POINTLESS!!! Except for seeing Souness fag-hagging obviously.

Was Nell given away by one of the carpenters from House Invaders, or did I hallucinate that?

Tony Blackburn and Nicholas Parsons' dance moves had a certain style also.

i want to believe its all true

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

and a HUGE amount of effort went into it for what seems like quite a pointless exercise, for what its going to result in (neither are likely to see their careers significantly receive a boost are they?)...so there must be more to it than meets the eye...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I read that Nell's real boyfriend wasn't too chuffed at it...

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

well she did make a lovely groom...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I mentioned this ages ago and no-one believed me!!!!!

chris (chris), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this thread completely made up? What the hell are people talking about?

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

This is what we are talking about.

Chris - I know you mentioned it before, but I thought you were making it up until I saw the pictures in the paper.

Surely this thread proves what a total waste of time and effort it was, given that no-one even knows about it...

It must be some sort of stunt, maybe for a new tv show or something. having said that, it was a while ago & nothing has happened. i would love to know for definite if it was for real. I saw some of it when it was on before & all of the celebrites nice little thoughts of the happy couple were a bit too scripted to be real.

Next week on Celebrity Weddings: Watch Jordan and Jon Tickle declare their undying love and everlasting unity in front of the nation. Features TV's Tim Vincent as best man.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 07:51 (twenty-two years ago)

TV Tim Vincent would be more of a draw.

(I'm not sure you can call him TV's Tim Vincent any more - he is no longer loved by the meejum).

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

well, this was quite surprising (i didnt see it) because for quite a while prior to this the rumour had been that there was a winton souness tryst

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 09:43 (twenty-two years ago)

were a bit too scripted to be real.

they did, but somehow also too sincere to be fake! i mean with the amount of people involved and the effort put into everything (the security team were unintentionally hilarious - taking it so seriously) i just can't believe they were able to persuade that many people to play along, esp. Souness, tho he did reveal a softer side to his persona i never knew existed

SUNDAY TIMES 25th May 2003
EVERYBODY'S TALKING ABOUT...DALE AND NELLĀ

Shane Watson on the strange case of the pink wedding

Oops, we've been had - or that was the idea, anyway. First OK! magazine featured the surprise wedding of the television presenter Dale Winton to the glamour model Nell McAndrew (cue all-round amazement, what with Dale being the confirmed companion of Cilla Black). And now, tonight, BBC3 is showing a documentary of the big day, complete with footage of best woman Cilla Black's candid speech ("When Dale told me that he was getting married, my natural reaction was, 'Who's the lucky fella?'").

Only it turns out that - yes - it has all been one big spoof! Ha! Hilarious! But for one small point: which is that anyone who registered the episode (with the possible exception of Bernard Manning) won't have been in the least bit amazed.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

One big spoof for what purpose though?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

it was the idea that made you think 'spoof' MORE than the programme itself which had both thoroughly convincing and unconvincing moments.

as to what purpose - thats just it, there appears to be no purpose at all - we will wait and wonder (/philcollins)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a rumour about Souness and Dale Winton having an affair!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, thats what i said upthread, that was doing the rounds for quite a while though

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i never heard about that, thats incredible. all the time in the programme i couldnt understand why Souness was there!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

It's been around for ages, The Guardian rumours column has been making allusions to it since the new year, and apparently he was made by the board of Blackburn to come up with some sort of statement about it.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

there was also the "elton welsby shagging fred the weatherman" story when i was working in liverpool - my all-time fave homosexual rumour... i still want it to be true to this day!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

everything i say on this thread is total hearsay and i am not prepared to stand by any of it at all, thus clearing up any libel considerations, but it aint half funny...
