OK if person As are playing something that actually sounds depressing at all.
but person Bs [who usually profess to 'not like music much'] can/will say this about almost ANY music.

But then that made me realize that although I recognize music as sad or melancholy, rarely does that translate to "depressing" and thus "painful" or "bad." On the contrary, I think I often gravitate toward "sad" music (minor chords) because it just seems more beautiful somehow. That is, in a superficial way (not in a goth way).
