This is the thread to talk about that cinematic and sociological masterwork

From Justin to Kelly

For instance, thanks to the IMDB, I know that Jason Yribar has scored a unique trifecta, in that besides being 'Carlos' in this movie, he played roles in both Newsies AND Showgirls.

OMG! It's directed by Robert Iscove! Certifiably the worst consistently-employed director in Hollywood! A near-total incompetent! Looks like he's found his proper milieu: aside from this film, his last project was "Firestarter 2: Rekindled (2002) (TV)."

Apparently he is also "Father of musicians David Iscove and Adam Iscove of the rock band All Rise."

I should note that I don't slander genre films lazily. Iscove's recent efforts are truly atrocious--the worst staging, lighting, framing, everything I've seen outside of student films and made-for-cable shit.

I picked up some film snob magazine or other yesterday and there was a lengthy roundtable on "Showgirls".... 10 or so film scholars arguing over its merits, importance, relationship to Hollywood genres and to the critical establishment. Actually some of the pieces were pretty interesting if hyberbolic. Notably Noel Carroll applauded "Showgirls" and "Total Recall" and blasted "RoboCop" and "Starship Troopers" (I believe he found the latter "reprehensible").

hey amateurist what film snob mag was that then?

BTW I shit on "From Justin To Kelly." Who the FUCK greenlighted this piece of piss? "Justin! Kelly! Beach! Romance!" has to be at least 4x more absurd and pathetic a sell than "Martin! Medieval! Dancin'! Revolt!" and 50x worse than the most imaginative recent highlight from Hollywood, the famous "Dragons! Future! McConaughey! Bald!" Of course even this drek tops "Mob! Money! Talking! Kangaroo!" but then again what the fuck doesn't.

I've taken to importing all my new movies, the box office makes me ill (except for TM:Reloaded, which was an unexpected gem)

I can't wait to see this. I wonder if they'll give me a funny look at the grocery store when I pick up a pack of Depend undergarments on the way to the movie?

TM:Reloaded, which was an unexpected gem

Oh. Er. I guess I'll just avoid all American films for the next six months or so.
