what was really interesting was how something so modern (it was built in the early 60s) could turn so quickly into a relic, and i wondered why it was abonded(sp) when so many of that era and earlier are kept.

Glad you got to see this place Anthony, it sounds really neat. I used to sneak in to tons of places back before I was legal. The night in the cemetary cured that, though.

Several years ago, some friends and I went into an abandoned office building (Nicole, by the Coney Islands on Michigan). There were HUGE piles of clothing that the homeless had collected... really bizarre. Then we accidentally came across a homeless man, who said "I'm clean" thinking we were the cops (our flashlight and all). But, in our 4am drunken stupor, we thought he said, "I'm gonna clean you!!!" and we ran out like little kids. Good times.

Ha ha, this is so true! And it seems like every year in the Metro Times photo contest they have to have at least one picture of the train station there too.

Most people don't break into abandonded buildings just to "appreciate" them.

As soon as I'm up the steps, I see what I think is she, pull out my key, and trip horrendously on a kerb. Key flies from hand and out of sight. I am totally aware at the time how absurd and cinematic and stupid this all is - I half expect it to turn up in someone's laundry or something.
I spend five minutes looking for the key, but I can't find it because I don't have my glasses, and cos it's pretty dark out. While I'm doing this I also realise that I have no idea where my bike is, so figuring it might have been stolen (I've already had a bike nicked from there before) I go looking for it in the racks. This is also hard, 'cos blah blah blind blah blah useless, but I find it after a few minutes, and then I go back to looking for the damn key.
At which point, the guard comes up, and starts asking me what the hell I'm doing, and when I explain he's all "do you think I'm blind or stupid, I've been watching you". And apparently I've been rattling locks (!?) and there've been complaints and stuff. Anyway, I'm all polite and tell him I'm glad he's doing a good job etc, and we agree manfully that I'm going to leave right fucking now or he's going to call the police.
So yeah. I have no idea if this is the right thread, but I'm all shaken up, like, and kinda had to post this.
