I mean, how condescending is this?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 12 June 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Inevitable.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 June 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

ahhh, I can now say with certainty that payback is indeed a bitch.
Another life lesson from Old Man Raggett.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 12 June 2003 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw a farmer with a Farmer's Manual hat once.

Actually, that's a lie.

Momus (Momus), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Indie hats? You mean those mesh dealies with the big bill that say stuff like "John Deere" on 'em?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Why do all these people who deliver my mail like that Death Cab/DNTEL collab so much and so universally? It's like some cult.

(haha, no one saw THAT joke coming)

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

farmers manual?! momus you really do live in a perpetual 1997 don't you?

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess, I don't know who 'famers manual' are or what you noticed them doing in 1997.

Farmer's Manual have just released an mp3 DVD of live concerts with a running time of 3 days, 21 hours, 38 minutes and 03 seconds. It is the only music artefact of its kind and would not have been technically possible in 1997.

I am currently listening to Ekkehard Ehlers, Stephan Mathieu and Goodiepal, would you like to sling some date-related insults at them? There's a space below. You might like to add what I should be listening to in 2003, I believe you are paid to be a rock critic sometimes.

Momus (Momus), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

goodiepal! i remember them;)

gareth (gareth), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

heehee

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

look momus's "joke" dunnit make sense no more

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I've seen that guy at some of my shows. In fact I think I signed him to my label.

Momus (Momus), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

You see that little black box just by his left elbow? Well, that's a homebrew Roland PMA 7000 and he uses it to make stuff that sounds like Mike Oldfield played down a telephone.

Momus (Momus), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Each drawer in that tower on his desk is full of a different hallucinogen: top drawer = DMT, second drawer down = ayahuasca, etc.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

No no no, he's a Hi-Tech Redneck.

Momus (Momus), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Wouldn't it be weird if somehow someway somebody who actually knew that guy found his photo on this thread?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

What does an indie hat look like anyway. I suspect it would be frilly and lavender.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

It's okay, Sarah, apparently Momus already knows him. It's all cool.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

And the hat would have pictures of Bright Eyes crocheted onto the brim.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Indie hat: Crafted from patches of mainstream hats, but the workmanship is shoddy.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Bright Eyes crocheted onto the brim

Initially I read this as 'crocheted onto the brain,' which sounds like hell on earth.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

"Indie hats" = band buttons.

chester (synkro), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

(I see Jess has used his moderator privileges to make himself look less foolish by going in after the fact to correct his 'famers manual' spelling blunder. It makes my subsequent entry look a little odd, but I shouldn't think Jess really minds that.)

Momus (Momus), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

look momus's "joke" dunnit make sense no more

Oh, he fessed up, and turned it into a taunt. That's either a really clever indie parody of retard farmboy humour, or it's the real thing.

Momus (Momus), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

that or it's another way to bait you into insulting the poor

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

look, it worked!

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Dudes, you guys got it all wrong.
This is an Indie Hat:

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

but he fought the Nazis (ie Momus still hates them, but at least they don't have the associations with the unwashed proletariots - I swear you specifically ask for Evian and they bring you Perrier! Those dastardly Lucky Duckies!)

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

insulting the poor

No, I was insulting Jess, retards, farmboys, and indie kids. I am an equal opportunities insulter. As for the poor, I repeat, I wish for nothing more than to see them become less so.

Momus (Momus), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

spoken like the Wall St. Journal editorial page

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

In which I defend Momus:

1. In America, there are rich farmers who may have rich, unctious, and moronic sons.

2. If I asked for Perrier and got Evian (I wouldn't ask for Evian), I would be more pissed than if I asked for Perrier and got club soda.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

In which I defend Momus

Welcome to the bunker, Colin! Prepare for depth charges of scorn and the odd HTML daisy cutter. It's very stimulating!

Momus (Momus), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
